Community for those focused on sustainable travel. Our society's current levels of energy intensive and frequent travel are not compatible with life on a finite planet. Met this guy walking across France in the cevennes, he started walking with his two donkeys at his home in Colmar, Alsace and was on his way to visit his kids at their farm at the foot of the Pyrenees. He was following the GR7 hiking trail.

My dream is to use the donkeys as my main means of transport. I've had so many cars broken recently, I don't know why I bother anymore.

I guess in your dream they are faster than 3 km/h :) That's what he told me was the donkeys speed.

They help with slowing down, degrowth, a meditative life. Although the speed depends a lot on the motivation of the donkey. Towards home and a bucket of food they might reach ludicrous speeds temporarily!

Maybe if he electrified his mobile fence and charged it with a solar panel this would qualify better as "solarpunk travel" :)

Nice asses.

My friend used to ride some race with horses (around 250km) and wild west style wagon. She said it was brutal - vibrations, taking care of horses...

BTW I can't see your posts and comments just in few community's, don't know what's wrong.

C'est pas un petit voyage, dis-donc.

Yeah i think it will have taken him 3 months, iirc he was on the way already for two and still had one to go. He was a fresh pensioner and had the time i guess.
