Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

When Florida is underwater I don't want those shit heads coming up to my state.

When they become climate change refugees, my worst impulses are telling me to treat them the way they treat other migrants.

Bus them to another state?

Bus them from the flooding in Florida to the heat waves in Texas.

[–] whostosay@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

Fuck that. Bus them to what was Florida.

[–] toaster@slrpnk.net 1 points 6 months ago

It gets worse than that unfortunately.

Shit hole political party and politician. Blaming an entire country is just a display of ignorance.

To be fair, a country is a political entity or state. I read it as being targeted towards the state, rather than all people living in the USA.

It was. Particularly since Trump said it, and he lives there.

I could see how someone might misinterpret it though, so to clarify: I meant Florida. But trump didn’t say “shithole state” so it didn’t work that way.

This is bleeding-edge progressive stuff. We need all 49 other states to follow and we can finally get rid of climate change in America once and for all.

This is sad for slowing climate change, but it's going to be real sad for all those families who will be completely left behind technologically. Just like roads, and railroads, and the telegraph and literally everything else. Good thing Uncle Sam will always pick them up and tell them they're Good Little States.
