Facebook is literally the last place people should be getting their "political" content from.

That's a good feature, politics on social media is just a cesspool these days. There's nothing worth seeing because there's no political discussion, just name calling, climate change denialism, racism and transphobia.
Meta's well aware that everyone's tired of that uncle that just won't shut up.
Agreed.
Threads is actually kinda fun if not all of the spam and straight up harmless idiots. Meta is right for once.
There are plenty of other tools for politics and it's better kept in smaller more mindful communities rather than these pools of random algorithmic shit.
I disagree. It is not a good feature. Everything is political. The guide is trying to limit censorship of political content. Political content is what got TikTok banned. This account wants people to be political informed, and not to just drink the cool aid of western media.
Why in the world would I want to see more bullshit from weirdos and grifters I don't follow?
Not all political accounts are weirdos and grifters? Some just want to show you what is wrong with society and what you can do to fix it.
These pictures are from an account that only posts rage bait political content. https://www.instagram.com/redstreamnet
They're not trying to help you. They're trying to selfishly protect their business.
Meta has had this feature for years.
On mobile:
- Long press the Facebook icon.
- Tap "uninstall".
After that Facebook won't control the political content on your feed.
What's funny is that both sides of the political spectrum are going to think this is targeting them. When in reality it's more than likely only going to be used to squash misinformation.
I doubt this misinfo part. I think its just meta realizing that people are finally at their fill with ragebait. And prefer echo chambers.
The history of Meta is allowing far right mis information so I'm not sure why you think it won't be unfairly used against leftist content.
This is literally exactly what I meant, far right folks believe that meta specifically sensors their content.
Yeah but you said it wouldn't be biased and it absolutely will be.
As a leftist you should be able to easily spot far right misinformation and block the account accordingly
As an Australian, I've found the Fediverse to be nicer and much less repetitive when posts containing these words are blocked.
Of course, that's my choice. Funny how meta doesn't provide a generalised keyword post blocker.... it's almost like they're worried you'd accidentally block too much or something.
And I do like the phrasing. "Here's how to get control back!" Yes, yes, get back your control of an endless algorithmic feed designed to maximise engagement and profit, of course, it's simple!
Thats a great idea. I hate the political troll farm content pushed into my face on those platforms, when all I want to do is wish someone a happy birthday and get the hell out.
