Sir, this is a Lemmy’s.
Software Gore
Welcome to /c/SoftwareGore!
This is a community where you can poke fun at nasty software. This community is your go-to destination to look at the most cringe-worthy and facepalm-inducing moments of software gone wrong. Whether it's a user interface that defies all logic, a crash that leaves you in disbelief, silly bugs or glitches that make you go crazy, or an error message that feels like it was written by an unpaid intern, this is the place to see them all!
Remember to read the rules before you make a post or comment!

Bravo, I think this comment wins the internet for today.
This isn't even software gore...it's showing a basic error.
Why did you take a screenshot of your entire desktop?
Why do you have Edge, Chrome, and Firefox? And all three pinned to the taskbar?
And if you're going to use Reddit on a browser, why on earth would you use anything but old.reddit?
> why do you have many browsers
Testing issues, that’s my work computer as well
> why windows 11 default theme
I’m quoting myself on this one, gross
I use two separate browsers myself because Firefox doesn't have the ability (as far as I'm aware) to have two (or more) browsers with separate instances/icons for different profiles that are taskbar pinnable (separately)...
The most egregious thing OP has done however is centered their taskbar as well as left the search bar visible
OP gore
ack. so much white
That's Reddit for you
It's run by incompetent bastards. That's what happened to it. This is what happens when you have zero attachment to what you actually produce, and instead care only about the money. They'd light the servers on fire today if that paid slightly more money. They have zero concern for the value the site represents to humanity. Same for Facebook and Fuckerberg.
They probably have a server outage. This happens from time to time..
Which is always their fault. Server reliability is 99.9999999% uptime now, with load balancing elastic servers.
I can tell you don’t work in software lol
False!
False!
Syntax error
Right so when AWS or Akamai goes down that’s the fault of their customers right?
AWS has insane uptime, and there are backup nodes all over the world. Reddit usually does something stupid with their code that causes outages. For a company with as much resources as they have, they should have way better disaster recovery in place.
Simply bail out and delete. F Reddit.
Halt and set fire.
This is not a software problem though. If you need Reddit, just go for old.reddit and you should be fine.
Yeah, just go ahead and erase that bookmark already.
ew i forgot people still use that website
old.reddit still works. Shoulda not fixed what ain't broke
It doesn't really work any more. Any post with an image will just show you the image when you try to open the post, and there is a little button at the bottom that says "view post". If you click that button it tries to install the app. If you don't let it install the app then it takes you to the new site. Ugh, I can't even. I hate them so much!
Any post with an image will just show you the image when you try to open the post
This gave me hope that it would actually just be the image, not wrapped in reddit's viewer UI bullshit, in a sort of "task failed successfully" way. But no, you still get their nonsense wrapped around it. Why would anyone want to just look at an image when that's what they click on.
That’s not been my experience.
This was the first post with an image I saw when I went to see if something had changed:
https://old.reddit.com/r/Costco/comments/1cd56t3/tastee_choice_crawfish_boil_worst_costco_purchase/
Are you on desktop?
Edit: I just saw someone else commented and said old was broken today too. So maybe it has changed since I looked at it.
Nope - I tested on mobile (iOS/ Safari)
Just so be clear, I was commenting that I haven’t had the issue you mentioned with image posts on old.reddit.com outside of today’s outage(s)
It was also broken for a good bit today
spez had to vacuum and tripped over the pi
The spezzification continues. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/04/reddit-sneaky-ai-spam-bots-compete-to-sell-you-stuff/
First problem was to visit reddit :)
Is that Windows 11 or a very convincing KDE theme?
