Everyone here saying they haven’t watched lower decks needs to just go watch lower decks.

[–] linuxfiend@vmst.io 19 points 1 year ago (3 children)

@Donebrach @Madison_rogue And they better hurry. You never know when Paramount might just arbitrarily decide to remove the ability to watch it.

[–] Piecemakers3Dprints@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yo ho ho, mateys! Never let corpo greed hold you back! 🦜

[–] linuxfiend@vmst.io 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

@Piecemakers3Dprints The crossover ep isn't available in port yet. I'll drown my sorrows with grog until the morrow.

Well, as it happens Crave customers in Canada have only until July 31st.

After that, it will only be available on the CTV Sci-fi channel - at least until its new Canadian streaming home is officially announced.

And what of us who need more Lower Decks?! 😭💀

[–] UESPA_Sputnik@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

There is a Lower Decks comic series with the same art style. You could read those.

Thanks for posting this. My wife and I would have waited until Thursday to watch it if I hadn't seen this here.

[–] monsterlynn@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

Not to be one of those people that yaps on about that aggregator site that makes money leaching off of content provided and moderated by users or anything, but this would be my first instance of hopping onto something posted to the Fediverse that was unexpected and awesome and so much fun!

I'd have dully waited until Thursday, too.

Definitely a treat! You're welcome!

Surprised how much the VA's actually look like their characters, that's actually pretty cool.

[–] Vordus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 year ago

My suspicion since even before the crossover was announced was that they designed the characters to look like the VAs in case they had the opportunity for cameo appearances down the line.

[–] monsterlynn@kbin.social 12 points 1 year ago

I love how, in the end, Boimler did influence the future timeline, but he did it in a really wholesome way.

[–] mawkishdave@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

This show was great, this season is amazing.

How important is it that I see Lower Decks first? I keep hearing good things about it, and I will get to it eventually, but I'm not familiar with it at all beyond the premise.

[–] arusso@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Haven’t seen it so I can’t say for sure, but I would at least watch a few episodes to get to know the characters. You may end up getting hooked and binging it, it’s a great show.

[–] monsterlynn@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

@Fuzzy_Dunlop
It's more like if you find the Lower Decks characters in the crossover amusing, then you'd probably enjoy Lower Decks, but the episode isn't written in a way that you have to know that show to enjoy it.

[–] jasep@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'd also like to know if there are specific Lower Decks episode(s) that should be watched first to fully appreciate the crossover.

[–] CodingAndCoffee@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Almost every anachronistic reference the Lower Decks characters make are references you'd catch from DS9, TNG, or Enterprise. You probably won't enjoy the campy silliness as much as fans of Lower Decks, but it's a great episode regardless of the crossover.

[–] bestnerd@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

None. If you haven’t watched it it’ll make you watch it

[–] jasep@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have watched a chunk of the first season, but for some reason it didn't click for me. Which is weird because I love The Orville. Loving Strange New Worlds so I'm looking forward to this.

[–] Thteven@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

It gets better, they were still finding their stride in the first season.

It was so hyped for so long. I was beginning to fear that it couldn't possibly live up to expectations.

I was pleasantly surprised.

[–] sarcasticsunrise@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 year ago

What?!? Hell yes! Just about to start my weekend and the wife is out watching Oppenheimer. This season kinda started off sluggish with the opener, but every episode since has been solid

[–] Madison_rogue@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

Agreed, it was so much fun!

[–] StillPaisleyCat@startrek.website 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is one of the rare times that I wish we had Star Trek on Paramount+ in Canada.

I guess we’ll just have to wait until Thursday.

[–] tqgibtngo@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

FWIW, "this episode is live on Crave," someone noted at: https://startrek.website/post/460864

[–] StillPaisleyCat@startrek.website 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

We’ve got CTV Sci-fi channel which means our other Trek content won’t be vanishing in August.

Who knows, perhaps CTV will add it ‘On Demand’ early.

[–] thejohnr@universeodon.com 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

@StillPaisleyCat @tqgibtngo
Pluto streaming service has 2 channels that play nothing but Star Trek every day. The service is free.

~~Space~~ CTV Sci-Fi has a "special presentation" on the schedule tonight - I'm guessing it's this episode.

From someone who hasn't watched any Lower Decks - that was absolutely fantastic. Felt like great Trek mixed with the Orville :)

[–] andrewrgross@slrpnk.net 7 points 1 year ago

Geez, go watch lower decks.

This season has been great, but I have been hanging for this episode!!

I'm locking this because it's turning into an episode discussion, and we already have one of those.

[–] lemick24@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

That's awesome!

[–] gashead76@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Since it came out early, does that mean there will be no new episode this coming Thursday, or will the season end earlier than it was going to?

It appears that episode 8 will drop next week given Subspace Rhapsody, episode 9, is announced for August 3rd.

Which does make for an earlier end to the season m.

[–] nyxlabs@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Wholesome, fuzzy and (somewhat) plausible, Worf's Honor! :)

I loved that they drew the intro!
Kudos, kudos, kudos.

[–] michaelcharles@lemmyjapan.com 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don’t suppose anyone knows how I can watch it in Japan without making like an Orion?

[–] CodingAndCoffee@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

As this episode will remind you, it's rude to assume all Orions are pirates.

[–] Kaloi@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Some of them haven't been pirates for at least five years!
