Did you just say Arch Linux?

[–] xeekei@lemm.ee 21 points 10 months ago

'Linux is slang for Arch Linux, so I think they did.

[–] SVcross@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Can't we all just hate Ubuntu in peace?

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago (3 children)

I thought I was cool leaving windows for Ubuntu. Y'all crushed me.

[–] Vampiric_Luma@lemmy.ca 5 points 10 months ago

I think you're cool :)

I may be heavily biased as a user of Ubuntu, but shhh

No that's also just memes and shitposts.

[–] Rusty@lemmy.ca 6 points 10 months ago

Not all Star Trek posts are memes and shitposts, some of them areData driven

[–] Rolder@reddthat.com 17 points 10 months ago

[–] EdibleFriend@lemmy.world 16 points 10 months ago (1 children)

You forgot bitching about Chrome

[–] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 16 points 10 months ago (5 children)

Just use Firefox!

Switch to Linux!

Why are you still on Twitter?

Only old people use Facebook!

[Silence about that site we don't talk about.]

Am I missing any?

[–] moormaan@lemmy.ca 5 points 10 months ago

Agreeing about Firefox, Linux and Twitter. Like, seriously agreeing, without sarcasm.

What if you get a car running linux? 🤔🕵️

[–] tourist@lemmy.world 15 points 10 months ago

park that thing permanently and use it as a Lemmy server

[–] weeeeum@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Tbh you can even discuss most of that, if you disagree you'll just be torn to shreds.

What about instance drama?

[–] Rolder@reddthat.com 10 points 10 months ago

Instance drama is usually related to one of the above discussion options

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I'll take this over the discussion options on Reddit.

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 35 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I love it when I'm reading the comments for a meme about butts or something, and then it quickly evolves into a deep discussion about the nature of human society.

Meh. I've seen some decent discussions here on Lemmy, just not in c/memes.

Okay, and admittedly more than half of those discussions were about Linux.

I've noticed a lot of commenters straight away take things personally and think that mentioning something is endorsing it. That kills discussion and turns it into a defensive symantic battle against commenters' assumptions.

[–] Klear@lemmy.world 13 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I don't do that at all. How dare you?!

[–] bartolomeo@suppo.fi 4 points 10 months ago

Lmao notifications have no context for me (I just see the reply) but I knew right away exactly what comment this was about

[–] wewbull@iusearchlinux.fyi 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

A corrollary to what you're saying is that people assume that because you've replied to them, you must be disagreeing with them. Often I'll agree with a poster but comment to add to their point, only to get chewed out for disagreeing with them when I didn't.

All memes are shitposts.

Facts.

Well, in my honest opinion as a commenter, I'd just like to say that I love discussions. What I tend to not enjoy is replying to the 1500 different people who replied to my post with valid takes, requiring me to read, understand and reply appropriately to all of them.

I am lazy, ok?!

[–] OpenStars@startrek.website 10 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

I'm doing my part!

Edit: replaced animated gif with a static one bc it just wouldn't stop!!!:-P

[–] where_am_i@sh.itjust.works 10 points 10 months ago (1 children)

looks like OP hasn't been to the world news community.

Replace lemmy with The Internet and it would be the same thing.

"The problem is that no one's contributing!"

-creates a community, trying to contribute-

-fails spectacularly with no engagement from anyone at all-

Well, that was encouraging👍👍👍👍👍

Since federation is broken a lot of instances I follow don’t have new posts. So no discussions for me.

The prophecy is true!

grrrrrrr how dare you make fun of shitposts at uselessserver093

[–] dessalines@lemmy.ml 5 points 10 months ago (2 children)

The active sort should help a little with this, but ya its definitely a problem. Besides just blocking meme-specific communities, can anyone think of ways we could make discussions more prominent for people who'd rather use lemmy for that?
