This movie is going to deliver

[–] sub_@beehaw.org 4 points 11 months ago

Let's hope it doesn't stumble and fall, by properly paving paths that connects people.

Errrm, errrm, I'm gonna turn off my WiFi and BT connection while watching it. Whales.

First ever strand type movie

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 10 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I'm a simple man, I see a Dunkey reference, I upvote.

They're a little something for everyone

Kojima finally gets his wish to make a movie instead of a game!?

[–] IWantToFuckSpez@kbin.social 8 points 11 months ago

That’s was definitely his end goal when he started cozying up with Guillermo del Toro and other people with short lines to Hollywood

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 3 points 11 months ago

I've been wondering when the fuck he would jump into film since he has the money, the talent, the desire and now the recognition to do so.

Sponsored by Monster Energy and Ride with Norman Reedus?

[–] tias@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

The Monster product placement was tone deaf and took away so much from the immersion. IMHO it almost ruined the experience.

[–] dangblingus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 11 months ago

Until you make Norman Dinkus drink too many, then it comes full circle and becomes a bona fide Kojima moment.

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 13 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Honestly, with a good director I see this work better than as a game.

And a good script doctor. They need to cut out at least 80% of the technobabble.

[–] skele_tron@feddit.de 15 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Fragile, but not that fragile, samantha AmERicA strand, almost everything Diehardman says...

i love the gameplay, but Kojimas writing is seriously getting more and more cringey, and not enough to be a cult like Tommy Wiseau, he neeeds editors

[–] dangblingus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 11 months ago

Thats his trademark. I dont want to play a game where all of his wacky crazy ideas get sanitized in the name of having mass appeal.

You think modern audiences can look past his hilariously terrible character names?

[–] TheRtRevKaiser@beehaw.org 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah IMO the more famous and respected Kojima has gotten, the worse his writing has been. And I think you've hit the nail on the head, he badly needs editors. I think it's kind of like George Lucas in that they have a lot of ideas, some of which are really good and some of which are absolutely batshit. Sometimes those types of writers need someone who can ground them and tell them that they don't have to put all of their ideas in.

[–] skele_tron@feddit.de 2 points 11 months ago

Exactly, and its a shame because his ideas are really good. Even his earlier campy writing ( Ocelot encounters in MGS3 were so over the top but so good ) had its charm.

Just waiting for "it's a strand type movie."

[–] atocci@kbin.social 2 points 11 months ago

The very first

[–] HopingForBetter@kbin.social 4 points 11 months ago (2 children)

All I can hear is infant screaming.
The premise was good, but that ruined the game for me. Same as Yoshi's Island. Infant screaming.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 2 points 11 months ago

I simply got good enough that they never screamed. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–] hamburglar26@wilbo.tech 1 points 11 months ago

I first played the game with an infant at home, do not want.

Aside from that I loved it, even with the insane plot.

[–] executivechimp@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 11 months ago

I wonder if it will have half-hour long game play sections...

[–] delitomatoes@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

It's a contemplative movie about a guy and him never having met his father, having a child of his own and traveling across a destroyed world and seeing how the survivors cope.

The sci fi stuff is just a layer over it, if they can make the themes and symbolism work

[–] jaycifer@kbin.social 1 points 8 months ago

But who will they find to play Norman Reedus?!

[–] dangblingus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Yes! Please develop the back story more! We want to see how the DS came to be! Plant some seeds for DS2! More Lea Seydoux! More Die Hardman!

[–] Catastrophic235@midwest.social 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

If this somehow bombs (I know it won't), I'm going to start calling him Hediwo Jima in public.

[–] MiddledAgedGuy@beehaw.org 1 points 11 months ago

I hope they don't ruin it, but I find myself cautiously optimistic.

  • Since Kojima is involved, I think there will be an attempt to do it well, not just a low effort cash grab
  • The Last Of Us TV series shows that these adaptations can be good.
