Dang 2025? This looks like it has a great deal of polish already. I wonder if all of this is hand-drawn and they'll need the time for all other assets.

I love the rubberhose artstyle, but this looks like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Isn't that the point though, that Steamboat Willy is public domain?

It will be next year

I'm not sure how this game would cause any such IP issues if it were to even release tomorrow. It's not like the game itself is using anything from Steamboat Willy other than the art style, which Disney doesn't own.

Why would this cause a lawsuit?

Disney is super protective of their IP

Steamboat Willie goes out of copyright in 2024.

Ah, okay. So as long as they don't step on the toes of any other Micky Mouse films, they should be alright.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

But they're not stepping in the toes of any already-existing Disney properties anyway?

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

The game is only using an art style. It's not even Disney's own art style. I don't know why this would cause any IPissues whatsoever.

Unless you're character is actually Steamboat Willy Mickey and the game is using anything or everything else from the short.
