Tour was 9. Apparently they’re working on “MKX” for switch 2, but it’s all just rumors with zero evidence.

Mortal Kombat X came out in 2015

They’re continuing the 7 ate 9 trend?

[–] spudwart@spudwart.com 3 points 1 year ago

Maybe.

But just know they're not going to make Mario Kart: Amiibo Festival then wait a generation and follow it up by Mario Kart: New Horizons, where they promise you more content, but retract that promise the instant it hits the #1 unique seller for the platform and leave it with less content than Mario Kart 8.

At some point, it's had to hit full saturation.

[–] sebinspace@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Fuck, even I bought the game, and I’ve been a simcade Forza/Gran Turismo addict for years, haven’t played MK since the N64.

It’s good. Really good.

they should make Mario Kart open world and marry it with Need For Speed => Mario Kart Underground.

hey, Nintendo employee who use Lemmy and read this: push this up for the big bosses around you, because man, that would be a super epic game and a worthy sequel

Also add a subplot involving an underground crime ring stealing VCR/DVD combo units.

Just after the final DLC wave?

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I think Nintendo Kart would be a nice follow-up, with stuff from all of Nintendo's IP.

[–] mostNONheinous@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There are at least 10 non Mario characters in game aleeady.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yes, but it's still 90% Mario. There's a lot of new stuff they could introduce if they bring in not just new characters, but tracks, weapons, and mechanics themed on other IPs.

That works. Hell, you could even get non-Nintendo characters in there! Pac-Man has already ridden karts with Mario:

Can we finally get F-Zero now?

[–] Marin_Rider@aussie.zone 1 points 1 year ago

id sell my left nut for that. best racing series of all time

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 6 points 1 year ago

I wonder how many of those sales come from being bundled with a Switch. The report says it lacks digital sales and only makes a passing mention of the bundle

[–] altima_neo@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 year ago

I didn't even know it was still up there

I just got into it again. I played through 7 and put it away. Begrudgingly bought 8 for the kids and decided it was the same game. Started playing with the wife because she was into it suddenly, just in time for the dlc.

Breaking News: Gamers surprised to hear anyone still plays Mario Kart 8

[–] smeg@feddit.uk 16 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Speak for yourself, "gamer", it's the latest Mario Kart game, obviously we're all still playing it. Have you gone back to Double Dash?

[–] PobrePerformer@lemmy.pt 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The latest one is "Mario Kart Arcade GP VR" how can you call yourself a "gamer" if you don't have four of these machines in your living room? Smh

[–] smeg@feddit.uk 2 points 1 year ago

I actually built my own go-kart track next to a tortoise sanctuary and a banana plantation for the true experience, casual!

Mario Kart Arcade GP VR

Does it come with a vacuum tube to collect the vomit?

[–] 3ntranced@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I just meant in the sense that it was in the top 20 games in the US. Of course its the most popular mario kart game at the time, but I had no idea people play it enough to generate a concurrent playerbase that large.

With the general lack of content beyond the initial unlocks/DLC and track packs, I wouldn't think there was that many people playing essentially becomes a time trial game every day. Then again I play wow now so maybe I do understand.

[–] smeg@feddit.uk 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

This is to do with sales, not any concurrent active player metric. Even if it weren't though, Mario Kart is about playing with friends locally!

[–] 3ntranced@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Just need to get some friends...

[–] smeg@feddit.uk 1 points 11 months ago

Everyone's your friend when you've got Mario Kart! (Then you blue shell them on the line and you're back where you started, worth it though)

I am. Played pretty hardcore between 2014 - 2016. Didn't realize it was still going strong.
