The more I use this platform the more my mind is blown. Greetings from Lemmy, if you can see this.
@shinnoodles @dynge yeah you can cross post from Lemmy to Mastodon and vice versa. The same with pixelfed, the Instagram clone, you can post and reply even without an account there. All thanks to #activitypub ;)
Oh I know. There's just a big difference between being told/reading about it, to actually seeing and using it in practice. This really is the future of the internet.
The future of the Internet looks strangely familiar... almost like the email servers of yesteryear.
That's where the criticism that it's too complicated for people to understand rings hollow to me -- people understand email, and that's federated in a sense.
My biggest concern is whether we'll have spam problem like in email later down the road. Anyone can run their own instance, which means spammers can do the same. Right now spammers don't seem to be interested yet, but once we reached critical mass I'm sure they'll notice and start coming in droves. I hope we'll have proper tools to combat spam by then.
Unfortunately you're not wrong. Even my tiny lotide Instance got piled in by strange Thai advertisers, it's only a matter of time until the nice corner of the world starts getting hit in ways we can't ignore. :/
