It starts getting that way with any page that gets popular. Regular front-page subs become targets for clout chasers... even in the comments - with so many fake names. Reddit's been dead - Spez only defiled a corpse.
I also agree the front page subs were mostly filled with shallow fiction, but there was definitely good stuff going for Reddit before Spez fโd it up. Iโd say the magic was in the small and niche hobby/fandom subs, the communities in a lot of them were truly unique and vibrant.
