Enough Musk Spam

189 users here now

For those that have had enough of the Elon Musk worship online.

No flaming, baiting, etc. This community is intended for those opposed to the influx of Elon Musk-related advertising online. Coming here to defend Musk or his companies will not get you banned, but it likely will result in downvotes. Please use the reporting feature if you see a rule violation.

Opinions from all sides of the political spectrum are welcome here. However, we kindly ask that off-topic political discussion be kept to a minimum, so as to focus on the goal of this sub. This community is minimally moderated, so discussion and the power of upvotes/downvotes are allowed, provided lemmy.world rules are not broken.

Post links to instances of obvious Elon Musk fanboy brigading in default subreddits, lemmy/kbin communities/instances, astroturfing from Tesla/SpaceX/etc., or any articles critical of Musk, his ideas, unrealistic promises and timelines, or the working conditions at his companies.

Tesla-specific discussion can be posted here as well as our sister community /c/RealTesla.

He made a lot of critical errors because he doesn’t understand that for a sock puppet to be effective in the long run, it has to do 3 things:

  1. it has to post regularly

  2. it has to post differently than you do. If it disagrees with you broadly that’s even better.

  3. It can only show up in your defense at critical moments and with almost visible hesitancy e.g. “I am a huge critic of Musk, especially on [issue A], but on this [Issue B] I actually think he makes a salient point.”

You get the most use out of sock puppets by letting them moderate your position to make it more palatable to the public without actually having to moderate your position.

Anything less than the 3 above makes it a liability. Especially when you sloppily juggle several.

See while I don't agree with your argument on his critical errors, you make a salient point on the list of things required to pull sock puppeting off.

richest man in the world can't be bothered to hire a couple of flunkies to sock puppet for him.

To have that, you need people you actually trust.

Elon musk trusts no one. His circle is a bunch of yes men who have willingly sold their soul to agree with whatever crazy shit Musk wants.

Musk is smart enough to know that. While also not smart enough to build a team he fully trusts.

This sounds like a headache. I can barely juggle my account, I can't imagine two or more.

More evidence CEOs really don't do much: He has the time to do this, despite being CEO of how many companies?

When you’re a petulant billionaire you think you can do these things effectively.

I once tried to have a throwaway "talk crap about my job account" but it got a little boring and didn't even provide catharsis since nobody engaged with it lol.

Ha at least it was two (highly coordinated) people!

So instead of sock puppet he just demoted himself to "ban evading forum troll on the website he bought." LOL

Honestly I’m surprised he doesn’t have like five minions doing this for him.
