MODERATORS

Hello World,

following feedback we have received in the last few days, both from users and moderators, we are making some changes to clarify our ToS.

Before we get to the changes, we want to remind everyone that we are not a (US) free speech instance. We are not located in US, which means different laws apply. As written in our ToS, we're primarily subject to Dutch, Finnish and German laws. Additionally, it is our discretion to further limit discussion that we don't consider tolerable. There are plenty other websites out there hosted in US and promoting free speech on their platform. You should be aware that even free speech in US does not cover true threats of violence.

Having said that, we have seen a lot of comments removed referring to our ToS, which were not explicitly intended to be covered by our ToS. After discussion with some of our moderators we have determined there to be both an issue with the ambiguity of our ToS to some extent, but also lack of clarity on what we expect from our moderators.

We want to clarify that, when moderators believe certain parts of our ToS do not appropriately cover a specific situation, they are welcome to bring these issues up with our admin team for review, escalating the issue without taking action themselves when in doubt. We also allow for moderator discretion in a lot of cases, as we generally don't review each individual report or moderator action unless they're specifically brought to admin attention. This also means that content that may be permitted by ToS can at the same time be violating community rules and therefore result in moderator action. We have added a new section to our ToS to clarify what we expect from moderators.

We are generally aiming to avoid content organizing, glorifying or suggesting to harm people or animals, but we are limiting the scope of our ToS to build the minimum framework inside which we all can have discussions, leaving a broader area for moderators to decide what is and isn't allowed in the communities they oversee. We trust the moderators judgement and in cases where we see a gross disagreement between moderatos and admins' criteria we can have a conversation and reach an agreement, as in many cases the decision is case-specific and context matters.

We have previously asked moderators to remove content relating to jury nullification when this was suggested in context of murder or other violent crimes. Following a discussion in our team we want to clarify that we are no longer requesting moderators to remove content relating to jury nullification in the context of violent crimes when the crime in question already happened. We will still consider suggestions of jury nullification for crimes that have not (yet) happened as advocation for violence, which is violating our terms of service.

As always, if you stumble across content that appears to be violating our site or community rules, please use Lemmys report functionality. Especially when threads are very active, moderators will not be able to go through every single comment for review. Reporting content and providing accurate reasons for reports will help moderators deal with problematic content in a reasonable amount of time.

Because it’s one of the biggest. Why do you care that people talk about it? Talking isn’t a crime. Can we celebrate hitler’s death? If so, then you’re picking sides with corporations, and you’re just a shill

I care that people think that the people who run Lemmy.world should be put at legal risk so that they can celebrate vigilantism on one specific server out of many Fediverse servers, one of countless places on the Internet where you can express your opinion.

Because it's super entitlement. I realize that's as American as apple pie, but at least realize you're doing it.

I hope one day you experience what it’s like to have a loved one refused medical care by a greedy corporation run by people who could not give a shit if they live or die.

I have been refused medical care by a greedy corporation run by people who could not give a shit if I live or die.

What does that have to do with my point about entitlement and legality? Like I said, there are countless other websites, including other Fediverse servers, so why are you getting so focused on one specific server on one specific type of social media? Because you feel entitled.

[–] intresteph@discuss.online 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Imagine being denied and still siding with them. My gosh, they have you by the gonads. Does all their wealth make it taste any less salty?

Don’t you have some comments you need to go censor? Shill.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Why are you lying about me siding with insurance companies? I'm moving to a country with socialized medicine and I'm glad because I'm in a shit ton of medical debt due to two chronic diseases, one of which I plan to seek euthanasia for in a few years, when that isn't even legal in the U.S.

Do you think possibly you don't know a damn thing about me?

[–] intresteph@discuss.online 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

So, you really get to have no opinion on it, since you will soon be gone.

And I know a lot more about you than you might think. You’re very open about your personal life.

Interesting that you, complaining about censorship, are now telling me what I can't have an opinion about.

I guess I know what you would be doing if you were a moderator. Anyone's opinion about anything in a country where they don't live- deleted.

Edit: I should delete this comment of yours, right? You don't get to have an opinion on European things, right? https://lemmy.world/comment/13864586

Just like all the mods on .world? lol

Go spend time with your family instead of making the world a worse place by siding with corporations.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That would be difficult since they're in Indiana and I'm in Georgia right now. Weird, I though you knew all about me. Why didn't you know that? I guess that was a lie.

Also, please quote me siding with a corporation. You can't, because you're lying about that too.

[–] intresteph@discuss.online 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I’m not the kind of person to state your personal details online, even if I know them, for any reason.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Thank you for proving you're lying by being unable to quote me saying one single solitary pro-corporate thing.

[–] intresteph@discuss.online 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Saying and silencing others from saying are different, but the same.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world -3 points 2 weeks ago

Sorry, you already lied and claimed I was shilling for them. "Silencing others" is not shilling. Congratulations on lying.

[–] intresteph@discuss.online 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

To your edit, you would censor it. Shill.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I would? Then why haven't I? You do know I'm a mod in that community.

Just another lie.

[–] intresteph@discuss.online 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You’ve banned my other accounts dozens of times for less than that lol. Feel free, there’s already another account set up, and one after that.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago (6 children)

Ah, so you're ban evading. That's a different story. Maybe next time don't tell me you're doing it.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Dude, you've been whining about how mean I am to you all this time. Of course you care.

Edit: Good job proving how you totally don't care with that childish display.

[–] intresteph@discuss.online 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Maybe you should use what little you have left to make a difference in the world instead of silencing people. You’ve got a good role model in the news right now.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

You mean like all of my volunteer work? Huh. Either you lied about knowing all about me or you're lying about what I do with my life. Which is it?

Also, what do you do other than insult people on the internet and glorify vigilantism?

[–] intresteph@discuss.online -3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I’m not allowed to talk about it, right? It would violate the ToS.

Hopefully one day your kid associates their losing you with the medical system and does something about it.

Gtg

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

You're not allowed to talk about what you do to make the world a better place? Why, do you murder prostitutes to lower the crime rate?

My kid will associate their losing me with atypical trigeminal neuralgia and ARFID. But then you knew I had those since you know everything about me, right?
