You could say that for a lot of films, hell you could even say that trailers make things worse by spoiling things (which is why they didn't here), and yet studios still spend ridiculous sums on marketing.
I guess they feel that they need to do it for some (crappy) movies, so they have to do it for all of them. Otherwise it would be more obvious which movies are crap, because they're marketed more.
