The name kbin is derived from sbin in Linux (source is a comment by @ernest). Is the logo at all related to sbin? It kind of looks like a forward slash.

I tried searching but turned up nothing. Sorry if this has been answered already.

Yep, I imagine it's meant to represent the /sbin directory.
