Taiwan doesn’t want China to invade, so they buy weapons from the US and other countries, and also have developed domestic missiles to strike at Chinese cities in case of invasion.

If anything Ukraine has hardened the Taiwanese stance, and showed them what an ounce of prevention is worth. I expect the next order of weapons to be even larger, because nobody actually wants another Ukraine.

If you think Taiwan has any chance of doing anything in a war scenario you are out high with copium in the stratosphere and you are becoming delirious, it would be one of the shortest wars of all time. Simply proposing this scenario is a clear indication of how deep rooted the industrial military complex propaganda of the US has invaded people in the first world. Hope the collapse of your empire doesn't hurt too much on your privileged ego.
Taiwan has at least 1 anti ship missile for every Chinese vessel and 1 anti air missile for every Chinese aircraft, and this just from US-supplied weaponry(I encourage you to read the Wikipedia article above). Taiwan also has hundreds of domestic missiles that can hit as far as Wuhan, and at least 50(and more coming) that can hit Beijing.
You say Taiwan can't do anything in a war, but this certainly seems like a lot of something. Propaganda or no, things tend to explode when you shoot missiles at them.
That said, certainly China would eventually succeed in invading Taiwan(barring foreign intervention), however China knows the cost of invasion and is not willing to pay it, so Taiwan keeps buying more weapons to ensure the price remains high for China.
Were it not the case, China would have invaded by now.
So instead China is doing slow diplomacy and hoping sentiment in the Taiwanese govt and people trend towards unification.
There was recently a "scholar" who said that sacrificing 10% of the population for the war to unify Taiwan is nothing in the grand scheme of things, and with a bit of education, all the younger generation would agree to fight. News report

Keep in mind that China has no freedom of speech. You cannot criticize the government nor say anything that would put them in a bad light if it goes public to the west. That's why the #GreatTranslationMovement was so successful when it first started. So with a person this high profile being able to speak his mind freely, means he likely has some kind of backing by the government, which means they support his stance.
Wow what a wild take. I wonder if that guy took into account the additional losses from potential Indian or Vietnamese advances. Probably others that would like to take some "disputed" land back.
We'll just wait and see what happens in the next election in Taiwan won't we. DPP isn't exactly popular last I checked, and once US loses its puppet regime then the whole gig is up.

Cause as far as I know, they don't. Not even their People's Representative is elected by their own people. (Fun fact: there's a Taiwan representative in their Congress, which obviously wasn't elected by the Taiwanese people at all) There's not even a single choice outside of the CCP. You ignoring the huge elephant in the room that China is a one-party system, thinking Xi essentially voting himself in is remotely comparable to elections in Germany, and thinking that "third term=dictatorship" is the only thing I meant, really highlights the quality of your intellect here.
Countries change constitutions all the time, not sure why this is so significant. The point is that German constitution already allowed for this. Meanwhile, western style parliamentary democracy is just one implementation. If you think that's the only way democracy can work then you really need to educate yourself more. Having more parties doesn't make a country more democratic, the question is whose interests the parties represent. Chinese system is democratic centralism and it's clearly doing a hell of a lot better job representing the interests of the majority than any western system given that quality of life in China keeps improving while it's collapsing in the west. Claiming that Xi is essentially voting for himself is the height of comedy. The fact that you don't even know the basics of how political systems work really says everything I need to know. Bye.

Do you really think the constant speech control on Chinese social media, the abundance of unfinished buildings, the Henan bank protests that is still unresolved since last year, the multiple law enforcement divisions on urban management, agriculture, and recently culture which has multiple controversies already, is China "improving"? Let's not forget that there are now even more people willing to risk their lives to walk across Mexico to migrate to the US, while the higher officials already have their families migrated to other countries. Says alot about how well their country is doing.

Nobody says China is perfect, and you can find a whole bunch of problems in any country. However, anybody with a couple of brain cells to bang together understands that it's the overall trends you have to look at.
China lifter over 800 million people out of poverty. Not only that, but it's pretty much the only place in a world where any meaningful poverty reduction is happening. If we take China out of the equation poverty actually increased in real terms:
Majority of Chinese students who study abroad end up returning to China. Over 1,400 scientists have now moved from US to China .
China also massively invests in infrastructure. They used more concrete in 3 years than US in all of 20th century, they built 27,000km of high speed rail in a decade. 90% of families in the country own their home giving China one of the highest home ownership rates in the world. What’s more is that 80% of these homes are owned outright, without mortgages or any other leans. Real wage (i.e. the wage adjusted for the prices you pay) has gone up 4x in the past 25 years, more than any other country. This is staggering considering it's the most populous country on the planet. Social mobility in China is also far higher than it is in US.

I fail to understand why you think China lifting people out of poverty and infrastructure work has anything to do with what Taiwan needs right now. But okay, I'll bite. REALITY CHECK TIME.
Yet they are now facing a large wave of youth unemployment at 20.8% and is looking to get even worse. People are also not allowed to talk about poverty online, as a recent video on Chinese social media showing what 100RMB, the monthly pension and the only income one elderly has, could buy was taken down.
Your linked article writes about privileged kids being able to study abroad but chose to go back to China due to cultural differences, work, family, or racism in America, has nothing to do with Chinese risking their lives to cross Mexico on foot to flee to America for a better life. In fact, the number of Chinese seeking asylum has shot up since Xi took power.
Also, this. The fact is the wealthy elites are also choosing to migrate to other countries despite opportunities at home. "反美是工作，赴美是生活", meaning "It's a job to oppose the US, but it's life to go to the US", is a criticism quote which is from a Chinese US-opposer who eventually also bought property in the US, that pretty much every Chinese and their dog jokes about now.

HUGE ASTERISK HERE. In China, the land is owned by the government. Your home ownership is perpetual. However, the ownership of the land that your home sits on is leased by the government. Buildings for living purpose has a lease of 70 years, while factories and business purpose buildings have less. And those years include the time constructing the apartment, so the actual usable years are even less. Although their law stats that you could choose to continue the lease after 70 years, the government also has the right to take it back. Now, I haven't heard about any reports of related disputes just yet, but no one except the CCP knows what would happen 30 years from now.
China lifting people out of poverty has to do with demonstrating that Chinese government does in fact work in the interest of the majority, which is the actual definition of democracy.
These tropes are as old as time, and yet what we see in practice is that poverty is being consistently eliminated and the quality of life continues to improve for the majority of the people.
I do have to give you props for cherry picking here. Pretending that there is some kind of flood of poor people who somehow get to Mexico and then cross over to US is really a new angle.

It's pretty incredible to see that grown ass adults can't understand the root causes that created the conditions for the war in Ukraine. It's not like countless western academics and politicians have warned for decades that NATO expansion east would eventually lead to a war or anything.
I'm sure that Taiwanese people all want to be under CCP's rule instead, right? After imperialist Japanese colonisation, KMT dictatorship, and the fight for democracy, surely the majority would want to give that all up in exchange for dictatorship. That makes so much sense!
KMT started dialog officially repatriating in 2014 when US decided to run the sunflower movement that put DPP in place. DPP is currently crashing in the polls, and everybody expects KMT to get back in power at which point dialog will restart. KMT politicians have already flown to the mainland ahead of that. If you think people in Taiwan are stupid enough to let the west turn Taiwan into another Ukraine, then what else is there to tell you.

Lol. I guess being Taiwanese and reading first hand news and social media posts straight from China makes me less educated than you on the subject. There are multiple YouTube channels by Chinese people who had fled from China talking about their experiences with life under the CCP. Few also even have Chinese police force pressure their families back home to threaten them to come back to China. So I am very well aware of what China is and what they impose on their people. Safe to say that your opinion on Chinese politics can be disregarded.
And I don't even know where you got your poll data, cause KMT isn't even looking remotely good in the polls. This is a news site generally regarded as having a more Chinese bias, and even they were reporting that the DPP is winning in polls, not to mention it's also KMT's SECOND time nominating a mayor who is still in term to run for presidency. The last one lost against DPP and had his mayor title recalled by vote mind you. This time around it's Ko who is in better position to compete with the DPP. You know who also got invited and flew to China? Ko's team. So you saying everyone expects KMT to have a comeback is just talking out of your ass.
