I would have expected Patriarch Kirill to say something like this. But the Pope? Not so much.

Why? The Pope is a PR figurehead and an his words are manufactured by a PR department. If you ever fell for his good guy act, I feel bad for you

There is the historical precedent of the pope supporting the nazis. So this par for course for the Catholic church.
