Mark Kermode essentially, said that this is Wes Anderson's most Wes Anderson movie, which turned out to be a bad thing:

I don't mind watching his movies every now and then, but they are VERY contrived.
I dont think that's a terrible criticism "Wes Anderson's most Wes Anderson movie"). It's kinda what I meant when I said sometimes you turn it up to 11 and it's too much.
I don't exactly know the right definition of contrived, but I don't find most of his films to be whatever I have in my head as contrived, so I disagree with that
