It would never reach it again because the solar system itself is moving and also the milky way

The interstellar space is not empty. They'll drop down somewhere eventually.

I'm not an expert, but if they are just drifting(without any self propulsion) I think they might ended up not hitting anything and just orbiting the center of the galaxy
