Is there any way to follow the updates without being logged into Mastodon? I don't know if it's mostly my user error that I can't follow. I do know that we can't really communicate towards them, but is following not an option as well?
I believe there is a RSS option. Try https://mastodon.world/@lemmyworld.rss
I know RSS has been around basically forever, but Iβve never bothered to learn how to use them.
What do I do with this rss link you provided? Is there n app or something to add this to that pushes alerts/notifications when thereβs a new post or something?
@timespace @jelloeater85 thereβs plenty of good RSS readers, both desktop and web apps, and you can plug it into them.
You should be able to follow it at @LemmyWorld, but I'm not sure how the interaction between Lemmy and Mastodon works for following users. They haven't posted anything yet of course, so for now it'll look empty.
If you want to follow the account without being logged in to the fediverse at all, a good option is the RSS feed. :)
Yup! That works too πͺππͺ
How to do that pls?
I didn't realize the @-link redirects you to the external site from Lemmy. The correct URL for you guys over there should be
/u/username@server.io
, which means that /u/LemmyWorld@mastodon.world should be the correct path for Lemmy users. :)Thank you! Below is what I see when I click on that link. Is there a way to follow that account so that their posts show up on my feed?

Oh dangit - you're right. It seems not being able to follow users is a feature, not a bug in Lemmy, with the advice of the developer being to use Mastodon or kbin instead if you wish to do so. There's a new issue open about it though, so hopefully they'll give in to popular demand.
Sorry for my misinformation! Since I don't have an account over there I just assumed the follow button would appear once signed in. :/
thank you!
I think Kbin gets Mastadon content.
It does!
LemmyWorld@mastodon.world
This might be the user?
I'm not saying it's not my fault but,
It's not showing up in a search and it's got all kinds of weird things happening when I put that in the address bar. I get past the "it's trying to trick you" phase and then it says it can't show me anything.
If I put it in search and try to follow, it says I must be logged into Mastodon to do that.
You can theoretically follow them anywhere on the Fediverse.
What's your aversion to Mastodon?
Probably just didn't want to have to make yet another account
When it comes to for-profit companies, I wholeheartedly agree, as there is very little chance 100% of my activity on that site won't be sold to data-brokers. When it comes to most Fediverse stuff, I am not so worried. Use an email alias and a pseudonym.
I think the issue being taken is with how inconvenient making so many accounts can be. It's the primary issue with the Fediverse. The expectation to make a new account whenever you want to/have to join a new instance is incredibly off-putting for many people.
Why is it inconvenient? It takes <1 minute
I have no aversion to it. I just don't want to have to visit yet another site. It would be nice if it were consolidated to lemmy.world so that it just pops up on my feed rather than having to visit Mastodon on a regular basis.
Not trying to argue with you but you can just install the PWA and subscribe to the account and you'll get a browser notification when they post.
thanks!
