Yeah I know, this might be taking things too far. But I got tired of typing the same variations over and over, so I decided to generate it from a few custom snippets.

You can use this optional shortcut together with Pushcut to get a notification when it’s someone’s birthday. You can set it up to generate the message when tapping on the Pushcut notification.

———

It currently works with WhatsApp or messages. It generates a message with three parts:

  • "Happy birthday" (randomly selects a variation of it, you can customize these)
  • "Tanja" (chooses the first name or nickname if you have one set for the contact)
  • "🎂🤗" (also customizable ending, chooses randomly)

So the message here would be: "Happy birthday Tanja 🎂🤗". It will then open the chat app you picked and pre-fill the message. It’s not sending the message automatically.

I know some of you are trying to make Spotify autoplay through Shortcuts work, so I’d like to share my fairly simple solution. It helps me to autoplay the latest episode of a „daily news“ podcast (e. g. via lockscreen widget), but you could setup autoplay for any song, playlist or artist too.

Here comes the trick: Ask Siri through a voice command to play the desired song, podcast or playlist with Spotify. Then immediately open Shortcuts, and magic - you will find the result of your latest voice command as a shortcut action for the Spotify app.

Really hope this is useful!

I’ve done it from scratch now, here it is: download. I’ve split it into two shortcuts, one takes a dictionary with the post info and makes a post. That one can be used for anything.

I also created a second shortcut to grab the title, url, and optionally generate a TL;DR via ChatGPT from any website. You can find it here.

I’d appreciate it if someone could try it out and let me know if everything works as it should :)

Edit: I’ve done it from scratch now, here’s the shortcut: download

——

I’ve been thinking of creating a shortcut that shares an article to a specific community, with the title & url prefilled and a ChatGPT short summary of the article. I’d prefer not to start from scratch with authentication etc.

Has anyone come across a shortcut that lets me post to Lemmy that I can use as a starting point? I couldn’t find one yet.

Simple chatGPT (routinehub.co)

Nothing special and there’s already plenty of these around. It’s a super simple shortcut with only a few actions. It goes like this:

> "Hey Siri, chat"

"Yes?"

(have a back and forth as often as you like. You’ll get concise answers.)

> "Stop"

Howdy folks!

Pretty straightforward ask: though Timery for Toggle new charting features + corresponding Shortcuts action are incredible and almost certainly all I'd ever need, I was wondering if anybody out there had ever taken the time to integrate Timery data with Charty via shortcuts actions.

Thanks!

Removes trackers and surrounding text

E.g.:

"Gerade bei #Kleinanzeigen gefunden. Wie findest du das? https://www.kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/tp-link-ax5400-archer-ax73/2541682018-168-1255?utm_source=copyToPasteboard&utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_medium=social&utm_content=app_ios"

becomes

Tracking part is from u/sharp-guru

Apologies in advance - I've tried searching but couldn't find anything in here.

I've joined a community that provide updates and documentation via Google Sheets, Docs, etc. but when I try to open them on the browser on my iPhone (either Safari or Brave), I can't edit them. As soon as I click on the Edit icon, I get a prompt to download the app.

I don't have a Google account, nor do I use any of their services (consciously), so would like a way to open the documents in the MS Office equivalent (Word, Excel, etc.) so I can edit the documents successfully.

TIA.

This shortcut lets you:

  • Add transactions (works with Siri)
  • Import bank files (csv/qif)
  • Automatically create a transaction if you pay with your phone on iOS 17‘s (transaction automation)
  • Add transactions automatically to Splitwise

Download Shortcut

Each of these is optional ofc.

Setup

  • Download Pythonista and open it once (sadly not free)
  • Generate an access token for your account here: YNAB dev settings, copy it and paste it during the setup
  • Run the shortcut and follow the instructions

I’m happy to help if you run into any issues :)

If so, what data have you been getting? I just tried it and it seems like the merchant was empty. I was trying to save presets per merchant in a dictionary and was getting a "no key was provided" error: image.

Upload to Imgur (routinehub.co)
submitted 1 year ago by fer0n@lemm.ee to c/shortcuts@lemmy.world

Also requires Imgur for iOS

If you’re like me there’s frequently a need to upload images to Imgur, since Lemmy allows uploading only small images and most iOS clients don’t support Imgur (or something similar) directly.

It’s a super simple shortcut, but it avoids having to open the app, giving it access to new photos (if you don’t want to give the app full access like me), selecting, and copying. It also means you have them uploaded via your account and can delete the images at any time.

I use an iPad as my cash register for my business, I am looking for a way to change the Auto-Lock timer while the shop is open to keep the screen from sleeping, then when I close change it to allow it to sleep again.

Not a new shortcut, but one I’ve been enjoying quite a bit. Especially for apps (podcast players/music) that don’t support a sleep timer or have one that abruptly stops and wakes me up again.

i have a shortcut tied to my speaker NFC tag that turns on the power strip they are connected to, and sets my phone’s airplay destination to the apple tv that they are plugged into. the apple tv automatically wakes my tv!

i think this is as close as you can get to that homepod handoff feature without being stuck with an overpriced siri machine.

hope someone finds this useful :)

Hi guys this might not be applicable to a whole lot of people but recently I made a shortcut which kinda works as a pseudo push notification system for lemmy.

It primarily works by intercepting emails from apple mail app, triggering a apple script, which then triggers a shortcut to get latest inbox message from RSS and forward it as a ntfy push notification (you can set clicking the notification to open your lemmy inbox or open another lemmy app, etc).

Its not the most elegant solution to push notifications (memmy probabbly puts this system to shame) but I use it since it can relay messages to ios, android, mac, pc, etc.

Datajar variables (lemmy.world)

I’m trying to do something very simple, and I know I’m not doing it right.

I have datajar installed, and I’m just trying to store the current date in a variable in datajar.

“Set Value”. I can put it in the screen, and set the key path to the key path in datajar. That works.

But for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to set the “Value” to the current date! Every time I click on it (Mac) or press and hold (iOS, iPadOS ) it wants me to pick a file???

Agin…I know this is going to be an easy answer…just can’t get there.

thanks!

Would make it much easier to increase activity on Lemmy with actual content (instead of memes lol)

Hi, sometimes I get messages from sender without number- there is just sender name in the message (like from bank or microsoft), but no number I can assign contact to. Is there any way I could set custom sound for messages from this sender? I already try adding a contact for this sender (wont work), setting shortcut (automation to play sound) which don’t start automatically for messages. I really need this feature, it was not a problem on android… I’m working as a maintenance engineer and need to react asap if get that kind of message- which is why I need to set custom sound alert (it need to be longer to wake me up if I fall asleep).

I’m very new to shortcuts but excited to learn to make my own.

I do a weekly review at the end of each workweek. On my Mac, I open my calendar, notes and tasks and go through everything. I’ve successfully made a shortcut opening two apps in Split View. With 3 apps, though, I’d like to open 2 of them on a quarter of the screen each, and one filling the other half. Is it possible to set this up in shortcuts so I don’t have to manually arrange and resize the windows every time?

Anyone else think this would be useful?

Sometimes it isn’t convenient to use Siri to trigger a Shortcut and I think Control Center would be a great place to be able to do this.

Just like we can make a Shortcut available on Apple Watch, we could have a checkbox to make it show in a new Control Center menu.
