I am trying to plant palm trees from date pits. I've already done it. It's a very long process that takes about a year to show a recognisable palm. The date pit has to be first immerged in water for at least 15 days and up to 3 weeks. Then in wet cotton for the same time. Finally, we can plant it. The palm should be water only when the soil is fully dry.

I've been using cactus soil last time but they are sold in big quantity and I don't want so much of it. Which kind of soil could replace it, preferably sold in smaller quantity? Are there soil especially made for palm trees?

Usually the fall is mild but we've already gotten a few nights of frost. Brought in my outside plants in a hurry but now I need to do some prep for the lower light and colder conditions.

Although I do have some plant lights and just bought some newer ones that will be here soon, I'd love to know what other folks do to prep houseplants for their indoor lives.

Is there some secret to this? Either I'm trying to cautiously untangle the plant without breaking any leaves so I can water it in the sink or I'm leaking water all of the floor.

Hope this is OK to post - sometimes the pests are living right under our noses!

I needed a stand to relocate one of my houseplants, but also didn't want to purchase new. I'm trying to avoid unnecessary consumption of new products and their environmental impacts. I ended up thrifting an old foldable table for $4 which did the trick.

But shortly after, I came across this way to reuse an old lamp shade as a plant stand. Have any of you done this? If so, let's see it!

This grow light's built-in timer needs to be turned on again any time that the power is cut (power surge, smart plug, etc). It also needs its timer to be set at the exact hour when you want it to begin.

I had a spare smart plug that would make it easier to schedule and solve my lights staying off any time the power went out. However, I needed the grow light to stay on after the power was cut. Twist tie? Nope. Velcro? Nope. Dollarama hook that won't hold anything over a few grams on my wall? BINGO

My gesneriad gang made the commute to the kitchen bar top. I remembered where I stored the grow light but I can only find one of the heated cat beds. Send halp, there will be hissing and flexing

I have what I think is a persian shield, and the leave are wilting on it. I worry about it getting worse and would like some feedback on what to do to care for it and prevent it from getting worse.

I am not sure if I am overwatering it or underwatering it. I don't keep a strict schedule, but I roughly water it twice a week. Putting my finger in the soil, it is a bit dry at the top but a little moist inside now, not crazy moist though. I also brought it indoors a few weeks ago now for the winter, so maybe it isn't getting enough sunlight? Any suggestions on helping my baby would be greatly appreciated!

A young community dedicated to balcony gardening.

Show off that vertical veggie garden 35 stories high. Or that bucket of potatoes you’re proud of. Perhaps some fall mums that have been catching your eye through the sliding door into your living room. Any and all balcony gardens are welcome! Come and show your’s off because we love to see it. :)

We also welcome ideas, tips, and items which have helped you in your balcony gardening journey. No balcony? Feel free to join in with your container garden with limited space too!

What preparations do you take when moving outdoor plants indoors for the winter? I'm mostly worried about bringing bugs inside. What techniques do you use to ensure you don't get infested over the winter?

Next, I want to look into solar to power my grow lights. 🤔

After many moons and many houseplants. I've managed to keep one alive long enough to get a baby snek.

Just need to watch how I water it.

My new tree decided to give me a really pretty leaf just before winter. What a cool plant.

Hi, I was just gifted this cute gasteria. Should I remove those little offshoots to give the mother plant more room? And if yes how do I do that without causing damage?
