I feel the same, it genuinely hurts when I think I let other down (despite they might not feel so).

Compassion is good, but we should probably reserve it for people who are close to us.

For those people who you probably will never meet a second time, close your heart to it.

I see, perhaps changing my approach & mindset towards privacy is the next thing I should work on.

Will definitely still do more stuff like boxing & containing non private services.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I will give more office alternatives a shot, and see Windows more as a "tool" that I don't prefer, rather than something to banish.

And yeah, Google sees all on stock android. I definitely will make Pixel+ custom ROMs my top choice when I next switch phones.

Guess I tried to push privacy a bit too fixated. Thx for the reminder👍.

Hi privacy community. I genuinely want to hear from both people who are very private and those who didn't go to such an extent.

I started my journy since high school and replaced a lot of stuff since then.

Ditched most of Google's app . Only 2~3 apps on my phone require google play store(Banking/School's app/ Train ticket).

Switched to Protonmail + Email alias, and manage my passwords with Bitwarden.

Got off social media and made sure I removed all data that can be found about me in quick Google searches.

Switched to Linux for desktop.

But

I can't get rid of gmail because I still need those apps, and some professors heavily relies on google services.

Windows ain't getting off my laptop because I need to make sure document format and software compatibility don't become reasons I fail a class.

I feel like the obstacle I hit isn't just convenience anymore, it's my life and the situations I'm in.

I wish to hear what kind of dicisions / realizations / mindsets you guys had in your journy.

Thanks in advance.

Typing this on a Zenfone 10.

The good thing is that this phone don't really have bad querks like ZF8&9, and the 2 years update only means not getting new android features, Zenfone still works perfectly fine a long time after the 2 year mark.

And yes, Asus has been quite an A** hole in the whole bootloader situation, but putting that aside there are still plenty of ways to tinker a phone without root(Fdroid, adb, launcher, netguard, etc..).

I would say If custom ROMs are too important for you, get a Pixel, they are just that good with it.

But if you are willing to look past that, Zenfones are great.

And.. then you'll find out that stuff piled up so high, it crushes motivation too. :(

And the science gets done, and you made a neat distro.

For the people who are using linux.
