ManifestV3 isn't enough to label it unsafe ??? Yeah , they're trying to kill Adblockers and privacy extensions but who cares, am I right ? It's not like every website is so riddleed with ads, viruses, tracking scripts and cookies they're unusable.

Privacy != Safety. Chromium is one of the safest browsers, and nothing will change that unless Google themselves add malware.
Although, yes, Manifest V3 is killing ublock and other extensions. Switch to Firefox!
Ublock origin blocked so many malware sites. In fact privacy = safety.
How is privacy related to safety? I don't understand how you think one extension makes you private, please explain
When grandpa get pop-up spams on his phone/computer slowing it to a crawl or is asked to put his Facebook /bank account info because he may have won an iPhone. These are the most widespread viruses and are mostly caused by ads. Extensions like ublock origin get rid of ads and malicious scam links like these so grandpa don't get his life savings siphoned.
Plus , Ads often hijack the website using forced redirection , blocking you from exiting with endless notification prompt and pop-ups and even if you know how to deal with them, it's still hard to do because they're programmed to fight back any attempt to exit them so it's miles easier to just use an adblock.
You're talking about safety... Not privacy. Protecting my funds, or my father's funds from scammers is not privacy, but safety.
Bruhhhhh, how can't you make the obvious connecton laid out right in the front of your face in very digestible format
I'll make it even simpler : the calls the extention relay on to guarantee your privacy and safety are mostly the same.
Google says: "Privacy involves your right to manage your personal information, and security is the protection of this information. Both are equally important aspects of cyber safety. You have privacy rights and should take measures to secure your personal information and data within the digital environment."
We're talking about two different terms of security. You are talking about security is the sense of protecting information while I'm talking about safety from mailicous attempts to hijack a computer.
My definition is not related to privacy, so it makes sense that we're arguing over nothing.
Dude, you proved us that you don't know what manifest v3 is going to do to the users, the conversation can end here. It's just disappointing and sad how people are so uneducated about cyber-privacy/safety.
Yes, I totally don't know about privacy! You're right, I should google what privacy is and buy nordvpn for my safety!
It looks like this instance has been defederated by feddit.de. I know that's where a cool Lemmy map is hosted, but no clue about how active their community is. Does this mean anything? (Also it looks like this instance isn't on their cool map)
I don't see them blocking any instance.
To be sure I subscibed to a community from there and it's federating fine https://lemmy.fmhy.ml/c/boardgames@feddit.de
Huh. I suppose the tool that was shared somewhere to look up defederations has spotty data.
Tried posting/commenting in other instance's communities but only some people can see them I think.
I think I've saw some people say this is a general Lemmy issue just now with posts not coming through properly to other instances?
I think the italian section in the Non-English pages must be changed somehow. Days ago, the italian senate passed an anti-priate law that also attacks users if they torrent or they get caought on streaming sites of copyrighted media. While the law was done mostly against football matches pirating, it's also written to generically include movies, tv shows and possible, games, music and comics/manga. The risk of becoming similiar to Germany are quite high, if you ask me.
Yea some countries have strict piracy laws, that's why using a VPN and following basic privacy becomes necessary while pirating.
Then the italian users or users living in Italy must know before troubles ensues. Any plan for a guide or something?
Hi - Created a community here. wondering how I can change it's Icon, or is that only something the admin's can do?
welcome. On the side bar on the right there is a pencil button which you can click to edit the community and icon, banners and description.
Got it, Thanks!
Does anyone know why I would be unable to view my own posts? I have tried Jerboa and the desktop version of Lemmy but under both when I sort by Overview or Posts both turn up blank. This has been going for a while not but I believe for a while after I lost the ability to view my posts in Jerboa I was able to see my posts on the desktop website.
I can still posts and get replies to my posts. Could this have something to do with me disable Show Read Posts in the settings?
Hey, I just signed up, and I'm not able to upload any images, including avatars, icons or banners. Trying to do so gives this error:
SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data
EDIT: Referenced function is handleImageUpload
.
Hey the image uploading at the backend of lemmy is a bit borked right now, restarting the server fixes it for a while so we restart our instance 5 times a day but it can still cause error sometimes, only thing right now you can do is try after a while, or use an image hosting site and post through there (for posts)
We are trying to find a permanent solution to this, sorry for the inconvenience.
Alright, thanks for letting me know. I tend to use hosting sites for posts anyway, since I don't want to hammer any instances too hard.
Iโm surprised being a piracy focused server we donโt have our own /c/CrackWatch for gaming!
lemmy.dbzer0.ml has a really good one to model/copy for us. Iโd like to have us be the big one since itโs our thing
