Yeah... well... I mean 50 milion of users won't evaporate in a day. But I would love to see them loosing a good chunk of them.

I wonder what will happen when the 07.01 comes

I hope a fair few move over, but I'm afraid the number of 3rd party app users is lower than we anticipate

Doesn't matter if not all of them come over at once. There'll be enough people to ensure that threaded Fediverse communities can remain active, and as spez does more and more to flush Reddit down the toilet we'll be ready.

I love seeing all these new sites grow. I think the removing of old reddit will be the bigger exodus. Right now users can still use old reddit and ad blockers.

It's really nice of spez to do his enshittification in phases. First he announces the API charges, then he does the AMA, then the 3rd party apps die, then old.reddit gets shut down. Each one will drive more users to the Fediverse, but since it won't be all at once the various Lemmy/kbin/etc. instances will be able to meet the demand.

Apollo is the only reason I’m still on the snoo site, but I still feel dirty being over there. I’ll most likely bail on it come Saturday.

What exactly was digg and what happened to it anyway? I used phpBB forums and IRC as a teen, then didn't interact with social media in general for some years, then eventually found my way to Reddit (with a low-key stint on Facebook to stay in contact with relatives across the globe in-between). The only interaction I had with digg was seeing Firefox extensions for it during what I assume was its hayday.

Digg was literally Reddit before Reddit. They redesigned the website to make more profits and people migrated to Reddit. Eventually Digg was sold.

History repeats itself
