Summary

The Economist lists a number of steps taken by the Trump administration that confirm the US withdrawal of support for Ukraine – from withdrawing the military from the key base in Rzeszow and reducing its presence in the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (also known as the Ramstein Format) to imposing a basic 10% tariff on Ukraine (while nothing of the kind has been imposed on Russia).

Diplomats in Washington also report that some Trump aides privately say they are "fed up" with Europe's efforts.

"As always with such a chaotic administration, it is hard to distinguish the true signal from the noise," the newspaper notes.

Seems like a very odd thing for an American to be upset about.

coughs in Russian

Well, most of us don't have video evidence of us having sex with an underage girl. Girls. Lots of girls.

[–] toomanypancakes@lemmy.world 30 points 5 days ago

That's a selling point for conservatives.

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 24 points 4 days ago

US: "You guys need to be more responsible for your own security."

Europe: Takes a stronger stance on Ukraine.

US: "No...not like that..."

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 113 points 5 days ago

Remember when Trump wanted Europe to pay for more of its own defense? Now he is fed up with them paying for more of their own defense.

[–] Wilco@lemm.ee 19 points 4 days ago

So fucking sick of this Russian traitor in office.

[–] LolaLoco@lemmy.world 19 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Normalize calling it “the Republican administration”. It’s not just one person it’s a fetid mass of enablers.

And let them be upset. What are they going to do: withdraw support and start an ill-advised trade war? That’s already happened. That’s what being “a friend” of the US gets you.

The Republican regime.

It’s a regime. It’s adopting a behavior and format that we’ve seen before in other places. One of those places was Germany during the 1930s and 40s, and the regime started with “N” and ended with “azi” (or if you want to be more formal about it, ended with “ationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei”).

But there’s also notes of Khmer Rouge on the back of the palate, considered how firmly anti-intellectual our regime is now, and how they’re attacking (figuratively, but I expect literally at some point, after the insurrection act gets invoked against “gang members”, considering orangeboi’s temperment and Gorka’s commentary from a day or two ago).

That's usually for after the military coup

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Ah. So a month or two to go on that then.

[–] KMAMURI@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

When the goose step marching happens. Probably around Heir Drumphkins birthday.

[–] puppinstuff@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 days ago

Sure. Just as long as responsibility isn’t allowed to be hung on just one person.

"We don't want to be involved in Ukraine anymore"

"Ok, we'll take care of it then..."

"... Hey, don't do that!"

It's not that they don't want to be involved, it's that they don't want Ukraine to win, otherwise they wouldn't care about Europe defending it.

[–] aramova@infosec.pub 21 points 5 days ago

It's not that they don't care about Ukraine, it's that his handler wants to take Ukraine and Donnie Krasnov is pushing that agenda.

[–] PurpleSkull@lemm.ee 7 points 4 days ago

Worse, they want not just Ukraine but Europe to actively lose. The destruction of the EU is the goal.

[–] Cocopanda@futurology.today 12 points 4 days ago

Well. Fuck Trump. Pretty standard position.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago

Because they want leverage on those rare earths. If others are providing aid, the us loses that leverage. Glad Europe is not playing along. Fuck trump's US.

[–] Luouth@lemmy.world 59 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It's not an administration, it's a regime. Call it what it is

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 15 points 5 days ago

It's a coup d'état.

[–] Aliktren@lemmy.world 57 points 5 days ago (2 children)

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 46 points 5 days ago (1 children)

If the Nazis don’t like you, you’re doing something right.

[–] Geetnerd@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Until you get disappeared to a gulag.

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 16 points 5 days ago

Well, if you end up in a gulag you either did something right or not enough.

[–] guy@piefed.social 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Not so much anyway when the Nazis have nukes and drools over your territory

[–] perestroika@lemm.ee 25 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Other sources have reported that the Trump administration has approached some European country with the reqest to stop supporting Ukraine.

The request was rejected.

[–] KMAMURI@lemmy.world 43 points 5 days ago

Good you fucking tyrant baby.

[–] hedhoncho@lemm.ee 18 points 4 days ago

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 19 points 5 days ago

what a shitler thing to do.

[–] Yermaw@lemm.ee 22 points 5 days ago (1 children)
[–] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 9 points 5 days ago

The point is to give Russia the advantage and turn the countries of Europe all into vazal states to rule over them like an emperor. EU really doesn't like that plan of course.

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 25 points 5 days ago

Did daddy putin tell baby trump to throw a tantrum?

[–] MoonManKipper@lemmy.world 13 points 5 days ago

Good good, carry on!

[–] yournamehere@lemm.ee 3 points 4 days ago

maybe muricans should live on mars?

[–] wildncrazyguy138@fedia.io 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

How do you square cleaning up Europe’s mess in one thread with Yemen and knocking them down for actively defending Ukraine in another?

You know guys, I’m starting to think these morons just hate Europe.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago

You don't. They're led by a demented rapist. Again.

[–] Wazowski@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago
[–] alvvayson@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 days ago (2 children)

If the USA is gonna be a prick, then I propose we give Russia and China EUV technology in exchange for peace in Ukraine.

[–] Eril@feddit.org 6 points 5 days ago

Europa Universalis V confirmed?

[–] Pringles@lemm.ee 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

What kind of moronic idea is this? How does giving away the most coveted technology help Europe in any way?

[–] alvvayson@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 days ago

For one, we already give it away. The biggest customers of ASML are not European as it is.

Second, it will bring in billions for the European economy and it will allow ASML to better hold its leading position in the long-term, since China won't need to compete with ASML. That's beneficial for the European economy

Third, how does it hurt us?
