This actually may end up being a good thing as it'll prevent the US for dictating policy decisions for the rest of the world.

Or kill billions, who knows.

[–] Loss@sh.itjust.works 24 points 1 week ago (3 children)

The US doesn't have billions of citizens.

The move means the U.S. will leave the United Nations health agency in 12 months' time and stop all financial contributions to its work. The United States is by far the WHO's biggest financial backer, contributing around 18% of its overall funding. WHO's most recent two-year budget, for 2024-2025, was $6.8 billion.

Edit: by the way, Tesla is gonna give Elon $58 billion a year.

18% is easily able to be made up by the remaining members, China will likely make up most of that just as a way to step more into the role of hegemon after the us fully exits it's role.

Time to build a wall around the U.S, to keep them in

[–] Noodle07@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Why do you think we shipped them off on that continent to begin with?

America is the only free country in the world so Oregon can choose just not to die of dysentery

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I’m afraid China may dictate it instead and we all know that can’t possibly be an improvement.

Oh boy, I always wanted to live out my childhood experiences in Oregon Trail in real life.

[–] AtariDump@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

You have died of dysentery.

It's a good thing America has a good health care system then right...right?

[–] GBU_28@lemm.ee 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Pay to win healthcare

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

It's the paying for it part that we are um still working on.

Just in time for the coming bird flu pandemic.

[–] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago

Yeah that's bad

What good does the WHO do anyway. Just blast your lungs with sunlight and it will cure all!

... or rinse with bleach. Guaranteed to reduce the number of patients.

[–] werefreeatlast@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

Wow. I woke up this morning!

Feeling so much better!

I can see why now!

Stupid signed us out of the WHO.

It's all the diseases inside me just partying like crazy. I hope that lasts.

“World Health ripped us off, everybody rips off the United States. It's not going to happen anymore," Trump said

Everybody rips us off, so I’m going to make sure that only I am able to rip us off.

Also, bruh, you had all sorts of warnings and didn’t do anything until too late - that’s on you.

[–] DicJacobus@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Mentally ill country should be Physically Ill too.

Absolutely. I'm really hoping for bird flu, honestly. If 50% of us die, may it be the 50% who will actively work to not stay healthy and who can easily be made to believe hand washing is for the woke.

[–] Railison@aussie.zone 10 points 1 week ago

On the flip side, the US health agencies will keep their back channels open to the WHO.

If something particularly nasty crops us they’ll have no choice other than to collaborate
