Now watch the Ferraris take each other out.

[–] SatouKazuma@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

It almost happened! Holy shit...!

[–] SatouKazuma@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

That would be so painfully ironic. Imagine going from P1 and P3 in qualification to a lap 49 DNF.

That was an unusual rookie mistake by Hamilton. πŸ€”

[–] bhmnscmm@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago (3 children)

That collision was 100% on Lewis. Piastri is such a smooth operator.

5 second penalty felt light give he just took a constructor rival out of the points.

[–] prashanthvsdvn@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Yeah bring back the drive thru penalties.

Leclerc's performance the last laps laps was dismal. He completely lost his head, heavily overdrove his car and tires in corners and under braking and losing it entirely a couple of times.

[–] BURN@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

I think he’s a bit frustrated. Ferrari have kept going backwards in his time there, and it’s got to hurt to see Max, who he kept up with almost 1:1 in all the junior formulas, winning everything and taking every record.

But yeah, his driving at the end was abysmal. The tifosi would have lost it if he took out Sainz in T1 of the final lap

[–] Microw@lemm.ee 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sainz, Leclerc and Perez basically doing identical laptimes. Let's ignore Max and it's all really tight

[–] DV8@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That describes the 2023 season really.

Crazy to think not too long ago Hamilton was lapping Albon in a Red Bull. Now Albon is ahead of Hamilton in a Williams

[–] bhmnscmm@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

It makes me happy to see his recent success. He's out driving his car every weekend.

[–] DV8@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Sainz seems to constantly move twice without consequences.

[–] SatouKazuma@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Isn't that legal so long as it's not done under braking?

Braking late and running over the chicane is the defense maneuver of today?

I was expecting a dull race for some reason, but it turned out to be a pretty fun one

[–] Cybernetic_Tiger@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’m excited to see the new and innovative strategies Ferrari will use to completely fuck up their race.

[–] DV8@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Switch Leclerc and Sainz back and forward and then double stack them.

Yuki out before the race start. Not an auspicious beginning.

Happy the two Ferraris finished that race in one piece. Those last couple laps were intense. I’m always happy to see two drivers from the same team battle, but that was something else. Congrats to Max for the 10 wins in a row.

I'm fairly certain the McLarens will pass Albon, but I hope Albon stays in the top 6.

[–] bhmnscmm@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

If anyone can stretch those tires it's Albon.

C: 20-30s

D: more than 30s

[–] 50MYT@aussie.zone 6 points 1 year ago

Is this after the first lap or first pitstop...

How has Perez not yet gotten a penalty for track limits? I thought for sure he's left the track more than 3 times.

[–] SatouKazuma@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He's given the positions back, which is basically the consequence. Overtakes outside of track limits aren't legal, but the stewards generally just order the position returned to the driver who was ahead before the driver left the track.

[–] bhmnscmm@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (4 children)

I thought track limits were track limits though? Even if a position/advantage isn't gained.

Sainz did excellent. Ferrari just needs to not screw up their pitstop now.

[–] bhmnscmm@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

He did absolutely everything he could. The best racing against max we've seen all season.

Hopefully the undercut is powerful.

[–] alteredEnvoy@feddit.ch 6 points 1 year ago

Italian civil war right here

First time this year I've seen the other cars not look like F2 cars alongside the red bulls.

[–] bhmnscmm@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Probably more laps led by a non-Redbull this race than every other race combined this season

[–] Microw@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago (5 children)

Austrian TV just aired a highlights summary of the 1988 Italian GP, which was the only race of that season not won by Senna/Prost in the McLaren. Gerhard Berger and Michele Aboretto snabbed the double win for Ferrari in their first race victory in a decade.

Really cool to see these kinds of historical tidbits.
