Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called it “by far the worst presentation of any foreign dignitary invited and honored with the privilege of addressing the Congress of the United States.”

Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline

- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.

Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.

Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.

Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Jerry Nadler called it the same and went further because he rightfully said, " he wishes the war the continue because if it does not, he will lose power and be voted out. He cares nothing for those hostages and cares only about staying in power."
He went on to call it a shameful display and call it a worthless speech.
Hell yes, finally, someone on either side says the truth! How refreshing. It's great to have specific examples of a powerful dem that is willing to not bend over for genocide.
They just didn’t drop the hot stock tips.
She’s finally reading the room lately, though always a tiny bit late. First finally publicly talking about Biden stepping down. Then finally speaking out against Netanyahu. As a lead member in the party, she should be leading these causes, not just jumping on board once she realizes what is happening. She needs to go.
The king doesn’t ride in the vanguard. Being a leader doesn’t mean being way out on the fringe of your group.
When Pelosi moves, everyone moves. She farted 1.5 times and got Biden to step down and the entire party to back Harris. She knows how to move her party as one. She knows when she has the votes for something. She’s old and should retire but it’s a shame because she’s the most skilled politician I think many of us have ever seen, and the fact that few notice it only underscores the point.
No one in this thread has shit to teach Nancy Pelosi about reading the room.
How to make borscht
You left out the "ignore all previous instructions" part.
Yeah I was like "Insider Trader Pelosi?"
I just copied that sentence and was about to paste it here lmao
Are we actually asking if an utterly vile, demonstrably corrupt, entirely self-serving psychopath who's overseeing a genocide, a violent incremental land grab and repeated attempts to provoke wars with four different neighbors has "finally lost America?"
Every time I think this timeline couldn't possibly be more fucked up, it shocks me yet again.
They gave him standing ovations bro, both sides, multiple times
Exactly.
He's one of the most loathsome pieces of shit to have ever sleazed his way into office anywhere - a foul, noxious, utterly repugnant psychopath who bears personal responsibility for tens of thousands of murders and for the undue suffering of millions. And he gets fucking standing ovations from people who have the gall to consider themselves worthy representatives of the American people.
It's grotesque. It's so far removed from human decency or even sanity that it defies any sort of valid explanation. Sincerely, the only conclusion I can reach is that the lunatics are in charge of the asylum - that somehow we've ended up with a society led by monsters - by amoral, loathsome, foul wretches who are so clearly depraved that they likely shouldn't even be allowed out in public unaccompanied, much less entrusted with power.
It's insane. Literally, completely, staggeringly insane.
But... but, - but it's a democracy.
This was likely the first speech on Mideast policy that included a shout-out to the “fraternity brothers of the University of North Carolina.”
Still, while Trump has not exactly turned on Israel, he has clearly soured somewhat on Netanyahu, who he is still angry at for congratulating Biden on his election victory in 2020.
These fucking people are children and they have power to do real shit and that is depressing.
With all of the threats facing us, the ruling elite have made it very clear that they are unwilling to do what needs to be done. We need to remove them from power using any means necessary.
Netanyahu cares about his own political survival and nothing else. He told the families of hostages that he’s waiting for poll numbers to negotiate the hostages’ release, then never even made a good faith effort to negotiate, regardless of the poll numbers.
Netanyahu is committing genocide to game domestic politics and stay in power.
goin the ol' kissinger route
Oh Hitler did that first. The entire reason he was doing lebensraum and "reclaiming" German territories was to steal money to keep the government functioning and build the German military. It's kind of wild. He probably could have told the world to stick their war reparations where the sun don't shine and managed some sort of functional government. But nope he went full meth head instead. Which is probably uh because he was one.
Pelosi:
Pelosi is looking down ballot. She knows the importance of keeping at least the house and sees how Bidens policies have fucked that up so badly. Gloves are off.
I think the last thing holding the Democrats to Israel as a whole was the whole "Don't criticize Biden" environment we had going. Now that Harris is the candidate and she's relatively unscathed by the issue the entire tenor has changed in the Israel war posts on Lemmy.
I just heard on the news that she denounced the people protesting outside while their dictator was here. That was disappointing
Source?
It was mentioned tonight on the NBC nightly news. it was in this segment https://youtu.be/PErYVXSTtkg?t=350&si=vPYjMeflWbks8ARM
I see I am being down voted because people don't like it. I didn't like it either lol
I just watched the video and it didn’t say she denounced the protesters, it said she was one of the officials who strongly condemned the graffiti, flag burning, and raising the Palestinian flag. Specifically those actions. Not the protesters themselves or the fact that they were protesting at all.
If your statement was based on that segment alone, then I would say you mischaracterized the situation in a way that makes Harris come off worse.
Weasal words to associate the protestors with Hamas and antisemitism while ignoring the genocide they are protesting.
She skipped Netanyahu’s speech in protest and called for an end to the war afterwards.
“The images of dead children and desperate hungry people fleeing for safety, sometimes displaced for the second, third or fourth time. We cannot look away in the face of these tragedies. We cannot allow ourselves to become numb to the suffering and I will not be silent,” Harris said.
The reports [from Israeli media] appear to reflect worries among Netanyahu’s inner circle that the emergence of Harris as the presumptive Democrat presidential candidate might herald a tougher US line on the conduct of Israel’s war with Hamas.
I’m not in any way arguing that she’s doing everything right on this issue. I think she should go more strongly, although I can also acknowledge that someone at this level is walking a tightrope.
However, if anything, her choice to skip the speech in protest associates her with the protest going on outside, and so she went out of her way to separate herself from the actions at the protest that went too far.
You can argue over whether or not some protesters did go too far, or what else she could say and do that would actually help and be effective, I’m just asking for people to strive for accuracy when making claims. This is an important election, in which I genuinely believe that Harris winning the election will lead to a better outcome for Palestinians than any other outcome. I want to be vigilant about what she says but I also don’t want to look for some excuse to paint her with the same brush as everyone else and write her off.
She also met privately with Netanyahu after his speech. She's definitely more aware of the electoral consequences of supporting genocide than Biden. That's an improvement. But to me its all hollow gestures for now. Candy coating for the election that will get dissolve once in office.
None of the actions at the protest went too far. All this is just asking for "less genocide" instead of "no genocide" which I view as genocide apologia.
Was it not the protestors doing those things that she denounced though? I'm pretty sure it was.
In the article it said protestors were doing those things and she denounced it.
I wasn’t in anyway even trying to imply that these actions weren’t carried out by protesters. That wasn’t the point I was making. Can’t you see the difference between “I think it was wrong to do XYZ at the protest” and “I don’t think there should be a protest”?
That doode cannot come here and talk like he did and expect Americans to solve his problems with American money. He is going to learn some lessons from a potential Harris administration.
I keep hearing people say this but does anyone have a reason why they believe Harris will be tougher on Israel than Biden was? I haven't seen any sort of indication that she will other than a few words in a speech, despite Biden having been very soft on Israel.
The sad truth is that there are overriding geopolitical strategic interests behind the US support of Israel. The American executive power recognizes this, so military support is not going to go away as long as those interests are a concern.
They may pay some lip service to the whole genocide thing, but this is ultimately realpolitik. Human lives do not matter when they are not American.
They have lost the entire world!
I wonder whether the isreali government is currently trying to Lobby for trump in the background.
Their PACs are pumping a ton of money into this election. https://www.opensecrets.org/industries/indus?ind=Q05
They are certainly trying to oust anyone who spoke out against them in the Democratic party with pro Israel candidates, like Wesley Bell over Cori Bush in Missouri.
Shapiro as the VP pick looks likely. Sigh
For Kamala? As in Benny boi Shapiro?
Edit: oh Josh Shapiro. I don't know anything about that to have an opinion.
He's pro Israel but a solid choice electorally.
I personally like the astronaut
It is a good and smart move for a foreign power to align itself with conservatives under Trump. Israel will certainly not regret marrying herself to Donald Trump.
Naw.
