Youtube is also now forcing you to turn on watch history for recommendations. Needless to say, I‘ve been on YouTube a lot less lately. (And that‘s probably a good thing.)

Honestly, as soon as there's a video sharing site and a few of my friends move, I'll be good to just abandon the web for Gemini.

Could you explain what Gemini is? I already know without looking that all my search attempts are going to be horoscope stuff, and I don't have the info to really narrow it down to anything.

No one here considers that we might not need a "competitor" for YouTube at all. Videos have been a disaster for the web. Information that can easily be relayed and digested in a 1000-word article is instead stretched into a 30-40 minute video with ad breaks. The less aid about TikTok, Instagram, and other bullshit video platforms the best. We don't need this shit. We need to go back to Web 1.0. Web as a means to share information and talk to people. There's no room for ShitTube there.

Well, yes. We've all been watching this happen in real time for 15 years now. How is anybody still surprised?

The only hope we have, and it's a tiny hope, is to build another world wide web that returns to the old ways and have it catch on in popularity, at least to early 2000s levels, to make it could.

No reason we couldn't do this today, but...eh. It won't happen. The good times are over. Forever.
