It is also kind of paid software? Source is available and you can compile it for free, but that takes some time and effort. And ready to use builds are not free.

Free refers to freedom, not price. It is perfectly acceptable to sell free software.

No, all of their official binaries are paid. Since it's free software nothing stops distros from compiling them and redistributing, of course.
