... the last time I saw that graphic I think was Homestuck.
So yes, completely realistic.
Yeah definitely for me! It was like a kind of magic, finding these little communities and not being sure of what might be available online! admittedly though, I'm new to the internet so I didn't see the early days and it was probably a bit of childlike imagination. That being said, I'm saddened to see so many "why isn't this more like reddit" posts here; everything being centralised and "like reddit" defeats the point of federation, and there's nothing wrong with an internet where you have to browse to find your niche!
first porn I ever saw was on a floppy disk. internet is made for porn
Exactly how I remember it.
In the '90s I was super excited whenever somebody hit my website. And somebody from far away country read my crappy personal website?!? Too much.
This .. is not quite that. That feeling of interconnectedness has been with us now for too long to forget.
Only thing missing is taking a wrong turn and discovering someone's fetish that I HAVEN'T seen before.
No, it isn't.
Maybe some similarities, but no.
Grab your board and lets go surfing.
The thing that's mostly missing from this that would make it way more 90's is a background pattern with overlapping circles, squares, lightning bolts, and squiggly lines all in different neon colors. Everything, you see, was EXTREME in the 90's.
I have the same feeling! It's like a whole new space to explore with a small bunch of individuals. It reminds me of the MOOs : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOO
MOOs where like the original "metaverse", text only. You could navigate through it. You would wander from room to room. Sometimes you would meet one individual and chat. Most of the time you would move things to understand the universe and for shit and giggles.
It really does feel like the 90s. A bit magical, honestly. I hope this catches on just a little bit more!
Want that 90s website feeling?
Here's some really old websites that are still running, unchanged, after decades:

It was a wild time. Sadly, I didn't have a mouse that plugged into the keyboard, so it was a lot harder to learn to surf the web initially, but I think my surfing skills became better in the end because of it.
