Apple Vision Pro launch pre-view testers complain about weight, comfort, even headaches::Reporters given pre-launch access to the new Apple Vision Pro have reported concerns with its weight and comfort, with at least two writers reporting notable discomfort using it. While there are undoubtedly positive experiences to be had with the product, it wasn’t just discomfort that was problematic.

oh look, its all the same problems they had before they gave it to testers.

[–] Neil@lemmy.ml 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

We might as well just start calling them "features." We all know Apple is about to.

[–] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 1 points 10 months ago

they need a pharmaceutical arm to vertically integrate the solutions to these problems

[–] shasta@lemm.ee 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Well duh, the testers weren't gonna fix it for them. It'll be the same product both before and after the testers use it.

[–] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 4 points 10 months ago

usually you solve in beta before sending it to end users for testing

The photo of the woman wearing VR goggles with a shit-eating grin on her face while supposedly having a conversation with somebody really speaks volumes about how Apple envisions us to interact with one another in 2024. Good grief, I abhor absolutely everything about this.

[–] CameronDev@programming.dev 16 points 10 months ago (2 children)

The goggles make her look stoned.

Wearing googles while having a convo is almost worse than being on the phone, its very antisocial.

I wonder what the "Glasshole" equivalent will be.

Whats weird is that I’ve used VR a lot and if I’m talking while in it or to someone who has the headset on, I don’t mind that there isn’t a personal connection there.

However, I get what this is intended to solve. An upgraded version of this that has much much better quality would actually be really cool and more natural than one might expect.

I don’t want to live in VR but I think this stuff is useful to be able to use VR while still being in the same environment with people.

I think the context really matters. If you start a convo with someone who was already gaming, its less weird. But if your sitting on the couch with a loved one and mid convo they start gaming (or looking at a screen), its a lot more antisocial.

I personally don't get the point of this product though, it feels to me like Apple making the same mistake as Google Glass, but I guess time will tell if this really takes off.

I think the stoned look is just her default look, googles or not...maybe "resting stoner face" is a thing 🤷‍♂️

The headset may or may not be great for a virtual workspace or entertainment, but the social aspect of it feels weird to me. I'd rather take the headset off to interact with a person next to me.

[–] books@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yeah perhaps I'm a boomer but that's how I feel about ear buds too.

[–] Jeremyward@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

I'm gen X and I feel like it's rude to talk to someone with earbuds in so I always take them out, I have noticed a lot of the younger generations don't view it as rude.

The smile says “hi” but the eyes says “help me”.

[–] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 42 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Those must have been terrible if they forgot to complain about the price.

"They're wearing it wrong."

-Apple

[–] roscoe@startrek.website 25 points 10 months ago

It's not too heavy. That's "premium feel and materials."

[–] CommanderCloon@lemmy.ml 17 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I love how every photo of this thing is right in front of the subject. Just tilt their head 30° and it will look like comical googly eyes

[–] TheFunkyMonk@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Honestly they look like that straight on.

Not shocked about the headaches (happens with most of the headsets), but I'm a little sad about the weight issues. That sucks - I'm an Android user but I was hoping Apple doing this would lead to some Android development in the same space

[–] thejml@lemm.ee 4 points 10 months ago

I feel like there’s just so much crammed in this thing it’s going to be heavy right now, but if you look back, they used to be massive and heavy and have continued to get lighter and more compact. Give this a few generations, and I’m sure it’ll lighten up a bit and get thinner.

TLDR; never buy the first generation of anything.

[–] ABCDE@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

The Quest is Android.

[–] june@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

What do you mean? Are you hoping google will get into the VR space directly?

[–] BiggestBulb@kbin.run 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Pretty much - or Samsung, Xiaomi, Nothing or any of the other Android brands

[–] june@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The quest, Pico Neo, HTC Vive Focus, Lenovo mirage, and nearly every standalone VR headset uses android though. There’s way more dev going into android based vr software than anything.

[–] BiggestBulb@kbin.run 1 points 10 months ago

I guess I'm moreso hoping the brands get in - specifically Samsung, Google and the others I listed. I think it would spur on a lot of new development in that area which is always a good thing

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

"I love your dead, virtual eyes that track by face and stare directly at me while you do other wholly unrelated things inside your headset!"

[–] Pohl@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Consumer VR is over, it didn’t work. nobody really wants it, at any price. Wtf was Apple thinking? This should have been scrapped and left for dead. Good money after bad.

I have put this on the internet so it can age like fine milk if this thing manages to find an enthusiastic audience. I feel pretty good about my odds here though.

[–] Fenrisulfir@lemmy.ca 5 points 10 months ago

Not everyone is adopting it and it’s still niche but to say no one wants it at any price is a little absurd.

I think the next few iterations of the Big Screen Beyond, especially if they can include wireless, could really see an improved acceptance.

[–] nymwit@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Perhaps, but folks are still wriggling around trying to make it happen. That and this being more an AR/VR hybrid (XR they called it? barf) along with apple's usual polish (and ardent reality distortion field susceptible consumer base) could make a difference. Maybe. Also, dead can mean different things, no? There is a market for driving wheels and seats and such for racing games but it isn't widespread like having a playstation is. I wouldn't say driving peripherals were dead but just niche. That's probably covered with your "consumer" descriptor of VR vs. what might be called an enthusiast market though. I appreciate the casting of your opinion to posterity.

[–] Sarmyth@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

The tech and price still aren't there yet. Until these can fit in your pocket or cost a weeks salary for your average person, it's just a luxury toy very few will ever use.

[–] TheFriar@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

“Apple vision pro launch pre-view testers complain about looking dumb as fuck.”
