I mean technically steam is a third party launcher and uplay likely is a first party launcher

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 10 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I would be happy if we could change it to "fuck mandatory launchers".

[–] Uncle_Iroh@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is a detail we all conveniently ignore and will keep ignoring.

[–] Corvid@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Because Steam is extremely reliable. Outages are rare. The same can't be said for other launchers.

[–] Uncle_Iroh@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

And super convient. Almost everything is just there, fair policies towards consumers, good support etc etc.

It's bad when your first-party launcher feels like an economy class ticket compared to the rest.

At least Steam almost always works. My Paradox launcher breaks like once a month.

At least Steam almost always works.

Well, except for Offline mode..

Stop buying games that use additional launchers. Ubisoft has been notorious for this since AC2 in 2009, and it didn't work any better back then.

[–] Dubious_Fart@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Thats great, until they patch in a shitty launcher long after you bought the game. Like Paradox with City Skylines.

[–] Zoot_@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I try my hardest to not buy games that require an additional launcher at this point. Such a scummy practice

[–] Kronusdark@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Game publishers should just get back to publishing games rather than trying to lock everyone into some sort of social gaming ecosystem.

[–] NabeGewell@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

It's why I avoid Ea/Ubi games, if I am to yarr them after paying just so I can play the damn game, then what did I pay for? No/broken offline mode, server issues, performance issues, having to deal with yet another account. .

Their shit is so shitty, it can't even report on how shitty it is to make it less shitty. Ha.

I hate the ea launcher with such a burning passion as to outshine the sun. ~80% it causes a problem launching a game for me and provides zero benefits for it's use. It has no consumer friendly reason to exist

[–] Ozzy@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

I have the worst relationship with this fucking launcher. For like two fucking years my Uplay would just refuse to fucking connect, always "Something went wrong". NOTHING to go off of either, still hate the launcher to this day.

Thankfully it finally got me to stop playing Ubisoft games as a whole 🙏

[–] Dubious_Fart@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Games shouldnt even be allowed to use launchers on steam. Part of the steam ToS for game sellers should be to default to launching the game directly, and get rid of this bullshit launcher shit.. Especially for single player games, LOOKING AT YOU PARADOX.

I'm launching the game because I want to play it, not because I want to see your bullshit forced advertising about this game, or other games, before i can play the game i actually want.
