Stockdale was also Ross Perot's vice president running mate in 1992.

He lost points in the vice presidential debate that year when he flat out stated he wasn't ready to comment on a specific question (I don't remember the topic). Kind of a nice summary of the issues with our elections in one sentence, isn't it?

He came across as a dotard in his first debate by opening with "Who am I? Why am I here!?" Instead of answering whatever the question was. I don't remember the topic either but it was one that a VP candidate should have known about. Similar to that libertarian candidate a couple of campaigns who that asked "what's an Aleppo?"
