WhatsApp is getting an AI chatbot because of course it is

I am so very tired of every company nonsensically shoehorning "AI" into their software to appease shareholders and investors. Discord shut down their AI chatbot in less than a year -- take notes from that.

It also attracts users. Using fad "tech" terminology makes them feel superior than the rest. They think "Oh I'm a tech expert because I use an AI toaster".

Another good example are "gaming" web browsers. Some people actually think they're better (beyond the looks).

This is a basic marketing strategy. It actually works (just for selling nonsense, of course).

Pretty much every web browser except Firefox is just Chromium with some extra crap slapped on it, they're all functionally the same.

And Safari. But that's hardware locked, so it's not really better - it's just not based on Chromium.

Safari is the best browser if you're running Mac hardware on battery and care about power usage.

It's just in another League when it comes to optimisation

If you're on Linux, gnome-web uses the same engine as safari. And it's a mess

Safari is the new ie6

Edit: also blink (used by anything chromium) is based off WebKit (safari)

I generally agree.

Nonetheless, Vivaldi does outclass the clones.

“all the clones are the same except my clone

[–] greyw0lv@lemmy.ml 1 points 7 months ago

What exactly are "all the clones" I know opera gx, and Vivaldi are on this list, but what other 'clones' exist?
