I usually brew 2-3 cups of coffee in the morning in the Moccamaster. Sometimes around midday I’ll make a single cup of decaf in my v60.

It has been a while since I made a cup of decaf and didn’t feel like finding/digging out my kettle and this setup occurred to me, so I went for it.

As it was brewing, I realized I probably should have just brewed into the Moccamaster pot, but my brain was still focused on decaf=v60.

Should I surrender my self to the authorities now?

I’ve made Yerba mate in my Moccamaster before, just have to clean it real well before you do. It comes out really good and better tasting than if I steep.

I assume it’s just the brew basket you need to clean thoroughly?

I don’t know much about Yerba Mate, but I did recently learn it’s a caffeinated holly shrub after we moved to a new house and I discovered we have a different caffeinated holly shrub in our yard (Yaupon holly).

From what I’ve read, the indigenous people here used Yaupon to make a caffeinated beverage but the colonial European tea traders were so concerned it would impact their business they spread the rumors that it caused vomiting. They were so successful in their smear campaign that it lead to the scientific name for Yaupon Holly being Ilex vomitoria 😅

Yeah I just make sure there’s no coffee residue in the basket or the carafe. Yerba is pretty bitter so the Moccamaster technique seems to mellow it out. Plus, the name brand I bought is really dusty so I get a nice clean cup brewing it through the paper filter.
