This is ultimately why I decided to roll my own instance. I'm keeping my backup here though in case I mess something up, but full control is nice to have.

Whitelist mode? Instances that only federate with certain instances, and nobody else. Blacklist mode is the opposite: Instances that federate with everyone except certain instances.

Yeah that got me pretty hard, I thought whitelist was just adding instances, but alas it banned any other instance. Weird choice IMO.

Worked around it (I think) by making a user and have that user sub to communities, but being able to include a whole instance would have been great.
