The women were having miscarriages. They were bleeding and in pain.

They needed a medical procedure to clear their uterus, but their doctors delayed it or didn’t even counsel them about it. Our yearlong investigation found that abortion laws are affecting how physicians treat pregnancy loss and other complications because the procedures used in these cases are also used for abortions.

We wrote it in consultation with dozens of doctors, including those who hold positions at leading medical organizations and those who regularly treat patients who are miscarrying.

If you have a character whose background you want to explain in a natural way, you can do so through anecdotes, not direct Wikipedia-like explanations.

No real (or sane) person is going to approach you all of the sudden and say "I was in the military in the 1600s, at age of 16, my father was a captan and blah blah blah blah..."

But there will be people who will say in a casual way "In the army they gave us nice caps, but I stopped wearing them for fear of going bald at a young age".

With that you explain the background and also the character's character in a short, simple and yet interesting way.

This isn't your college or work place break room. If people are saying something you disagree with you can just say it and you won't be fired or ostracized for it. Yeah, people will probably get angry and say mean things to you but those are just words which can be ignored. Offence is taken, not given.

Best guess, based off the vote count differences of those two days, is that if you see a vote with 100,000 count, it's likely closer to 20,000 count (divide by roughly 5 or so).

Quebecor’s Freedom Mobile has launched a new campaign on Thursday, with the lengthy hashtag #EndOverpricedRoamingFeesNow, to challenge ‘Big 3’ incumbents, Rogers, Telus and Bell, on their costly roaming charges.

The campaign encourages Canadians to sign a Change.org petition and demand fairer pricing from our dominant telecoms.

The move comes after the CRTC requested these companies to address complaints about high roaming fees. Despite the pressure, Rogers, Telus and Bell defended their daily roaming rates, which can cost Canadians as much as $16 per day while traveling, saying their pricing is competitive.

If you're concerned about Trump's nominations, the most impactful thing you can do is to reach out to your US Senators and voice your opposition. A large volume of brief phone calls do make a difference at strategic times. Immediately after a nomination announcement is one of those strategic times, because they are figuring out how/whether to respond publicly. Democracy must be fought for even after elections have ended.

Contacting Senators from both parties also matters right now. The prevailing message in the media is that Dems need to cater even more to Republicans to win the next election, they need to hear your voice if you disagree with that.

The most effective phone calls take less than a minute: say your name, your city or ZIP code, and what you support/oppose, maybe a sentence on why. You'll be marked down on a spread sheet that is discussed at the daily office strategy meeting.

Other actions like brief emails, meeting in-person at the district office, meeting in-person at the DC office, can also be effective, but take more time and energy. Emails aren't always read right away like a phone call must be answered for example. And you generally need to make an appointment for an in-person meeting.

Learned about it from another lemmy user! it's a newer website, so not every game has a rating, but it's already super helpful and I intend to add ratings as I can!

While as an adult I think it'll probably be helpful to find games that are just games and not trying to bait whales, I feel like it's even more helpful for parents.

Making sure the game your kids want to play is free of traps like accidental purchases and starting chain emails with invites I think makes it worth its weight in gold.

The death industry is very slimy and relies on high pressure sales tactics when people are grieving. Don't let them. KYR!

So I went to check in online, and it asked me to check some boxes for what luggage I wanted to bring on board. I did, and it told me that to carry on both a backpack and a roller bag it’ll be $45, or $65 if I try to play games and they have to check stuff at the gate.

I said fuck that, and unchecked some boxes. It said I couldn’t check in without putting a credit card on file, that they would charge if there were any issues and they wound up needing to charge me for my luggage. It wouldn’t let me continue without putting a credit card on file and checking a box that said they could charge me for my luggage, if they felt it was excessive.

I said fuck that and decided to check in at the airport. I threw all my stuff in a backpack to remove any wiggle room, and the kiosk said the same thing. I talked to one of the people, and she said it’s a new policy. I pointed out that I paid for my ticket, she could see I had only a backpack, and I wanted to get in the airplane. She told me to go talk to the guy at the end.

I talked to the guy at the end, politely, and eventually he printed a boarding pass for me. But you should know they’re up to some bullshit.

Why YSK: Websites on the internet often try to uniquely identify your device, this extension attempts to prevent that and make it hard for them to do so.

My girl was looking for a dress for Halloween. Yesterday she found one on Amazon for € 35 and put it in the cart, but did not buy it. Today she looked it up again and it was € 50 so she asked me to look it up with my phone with my Amazon account - it turned out to be € 23 for me, less than half of what it’s for her!

Earlier today I came across a Reddit comment with a link to an Instagram post. The link had ?igsh= at the end.

When I clicked on the link, I got this popup. It had a name and profile photo that was different from that of the post being shared.

I avoid link trackers. However, I did not realize it was this bad.

To my knowledge, TikTok does the same thing and lists the name of the person that shared the link. Assuming this increases engagement, any website could enable such a feature, even on old links that you shared in the past.

You should manually remove any trackers before sharing, or use an app for it.
