Hi all, I want to share a mini-project I completed recently.

Path of Exile: Random Map Survival Challenge

~This product isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Grinding Gear Games in any way.~

This is a proof of concept in adapting a plugin from Trackmania into Path of Exile.

How It Works

You are given 10 minutes on the timer and sets of randomized maps. Your goal is to clear as many maps as possible before the timer runs out. Upon clearing a map ("20 or less monsters remain."), 1 minute 15 seconds is added back (capped at the maximum) to your timer. You can skip a map at the cost of 1 minute of the maximum timer.

This isn't everyone's cup of tea but hopefully it hits the spot for some few of you exiles who's got the zoomies and itch to chase rankings on a leaderboard.

Best enjoyed in Standard or at the end of league with a full map stash tab.

Hello! Friendly neighbor over at sh.itjust.works popping in to lend a hand. Here's a very useful set of instructions and tips that have been floating about, I hope you find it useful too.

You can ignore the "How to Join Lemmy" part if you're already happily set up on pathofexile-discuss.com, but the rest'll still be useful.

(These instructions are for using Lemmy in a browser. If you are using an app, some steps may differ.)

How to Join Lemmy

To use Lemmy, you need to be a member of one instance from the list at https://join-lemmy.org/instances. You will still be able to see content from anywhere, but the instance you choose will determine:

  • What URL you use to log in to Lemmy,
  • What content shows on the homepage when you select "Local" or "All",
  • Who moderates your instance, and
  • What rules you agree to when you sign up.

Choose an instance that matches your interests, language, and region. (If you want more information about an instance, you can tap its "Join" button, which will show you its current homepage in the main view and its description in the sidebar. You can also check the tables here and here.) Please avoid joining instances that are already crowded (1K+ users/month). If an instance gets overcrowded, it can start running slowly or experiencing downtime, so choosing an uncrowded instance will give both you and others a better Lemmy experience.

Once you have decided on an instance, tap its "Join" button to open it and then tap "Sign Up" in the upper-right corner. Fill out the form and wait for your account to be approved.

When your account is approved, log in and customize your profile and settings. If you change your language settings, select "Undetermined" in addition to any languages you speak so that you can still see posts and comments that are not tagged as being in any particular language.

How to Find and Subscribe to Communities

There are four ways to find communities through Lemmy:

  1. To browse communities that others in your instance are already subscribed to, tap the "Communities" tab at the top of the page and choose the "All" scope. Tapping on a community name will open it through your instance.

  2. To browse communities across all instances, visit https://browse.feddit.de/. Tapping on the community's name will open it, but probably not through your instance (in which case the page will say that you are not logged in). Instead, follow these steps:

    a. Copy the community's URL or remote name. You can use the copy button next to the community name, you can open the community outside your instance and copy the URL from your address bar, or you can open the community outside your instance and copy the remote name (which will look like [!community@instance.tld](/c/community@instance.tld)) from the sidebar.

    b. In your instance, tap on the "๐Ÿ” Search" button in the upper toolbar.

    c. Make sure that you have chosen "All" for each of the four filters: "Type", "Scope", "Community", and "Creator".

    d. Paste the community's URL or remote name into the search field and tap "Search".

    e. One of the results should be the community shown as an icon, a name, and a subscriber count. If you do not see it, or it is buried too deep in the search results, try changing "Scope" to "Local". If that does not work, you may need to wait a bit and try again.

    f. Tap on the community in the search results to open it in your instance.

  3. If you want an experience similar to Reddit's r/all, visit https://lemmy.directory/home/data_type/Post/listing_type/All/sort/Hot/page/1, which aggregates from these communities as described here. As in Option 2, you can copy and search for a community's URL to open it in your instance and subscribe to it.

  4. If you don't see a community by browsing, subscribe to https://lemmy.ml/c/findacommunity and make a post about what you're looking for.

Once a community is open in your instance, subscribe to it by tapping on the "Subscribe" button at the top of the sidebar. It will then appear in the "Subscribed" section of your "Communities" tab, and its posts will show on your home feeds.

Can't find a community you're looking for? If your instance allows it, you can create the community yourself by tapping "Create Community" in the upper toolbar.

The simple version of that wall of text is if you're the first person on your instance to subscribe to a community:

  1. Get the URL (for example, https://lemmy.ml/c/lemmy)

  2. Go to the Communities page

  3. Search for that URL

  4. Change all search options to "All" (even "Communities")

  5. Click the federated link it gives you (for example, https://pathofexile-discuss.com/c/lemmy@lemmy.ml)

  6. Click subscribe

Also, there's a new project for finding communities across instances! lemmyverse.net is a REALLY cool and easy way to find communities that you might want to subscribe to!

I'm curious, what would it take to to get this build to wave 30 comfortably?

So far, I've made it to wave 15 in the Simulacrum before I get 3-shot into oblivion, and I'm only really having trouble doing T14-T16 rare red maps outside of that. Inside the sim, I can't tell what's killing me but it feels like I'm getting stunned.

Any advice?

https://www.macrumors.com/2023/06/15/reddit-threatens-to-remove-subreddit-moderators/

Reddit: If a moderator team unanimously decides to stop moderating, we will invite new, active moderators to keep these spaces open and accessible to users. If there is no consensus, but at least one mod wants to keep the community going, we will respect their decisions and remove those who no longer want to moderate from the mod team.

Based on this, it's very possible that the Path of Exile subreddit will end up being assigned to some other group of people than the current set

This might be due to statements from advertisers that they would stop paying for reddit ads if the blackout lasted longer

https://www.adweek.com/social-marketing/ripples-through-reddit-as-advertisers-weather-moderators-strike/

Campaigns have notched slightly lower impression delivery and consequently, slightly higher CPMs, over the days of the blackout, Johnson said. If the performance weakness continues for a week or two, the agency would start recommending decreasing spend with Reddit or directing it to other platforms.

I don't know what this means right now for the community. Not everyone has had a chance to respond in the mod team yet, but so far, it looks to be strongly in favor of not opening the subreddit as a result of reddit saying this. The general consensus is that Reddit won't be able to / won't actually choose to replace many thousands of mods.

As I'm sure you have already seen this latest edit provides some info about moderation tools. I'm no mod so I'm asking, is this a change you hoped to achieve, concerning moderation tools? I know the paid API thing is still there, but besides that, are these good news if they follow up on them?

Hey all, Coming from Reddit, read the pinned thread about lack of interaction, so here's my contribution.

I started league with RF jugg and managed to complete the atlas (first time since playing for years), I invested like 5 div on the gear and but after a bad chroma roll now my gloves are unusable, so I'm using this as an excuse to start a new character.

Can you guys recommend me a build that is able to clear all content, Uber and stuff on a budget? I'm still missing 2 void stones, the maven one and the Uber elder (I think?)

I was eyeing lighting arrow or flicker strike but they seem high cost, but as long as the clear speed and the bossing is good, I'm fine with anything, if possible it would be better if it's just one main skill and not something like a map clearing skill and a bossing skill.

Thanks in advance!

The series continues with the official launch of PoE! Diving into the end of Act III, the Scion, Domination & Nemesis leagues, and much more, I'm looking to gaze into the past of PoE in the lead-up to PoE 2.

Join me and let me know your thoughts about the idea, series, and when you may have joined PoE. Were you an exile in the distant past when PoE 1.0 hit the world on October 23, 2013?

This post should NOT be taken as some kind of insult towards the mods of the previous subreddit, nor should it be seen as some justification for the dumb crap that Reddit is trying to pull with their API. I am totally against Reddit trying to price gouge people who make their site better.

However, I made a post on the thread that announced the indefinite lockdown that people would not switch sites and ultimately it would harm the community because 75-80% of people wouldn't switch, and it seems my number was really wrong. It is more like 95%+. I guess I am making this thread to ask if it is worth fracturing the main place for the PoE community to gather (for better or worse)? I think it is worth a legitimate discussion, because I hate the idea that the PoE community is the one getting harmed because of Reddit's poor decision making. Maybe Reddit will change their tune and this won't matter, but if they're not are we just going to stay away from there forever? Unless this site (which is out of control of the mods here) gets massive upgrades then I just don't ever see it being used at all.

Feel free to give your thoughts and I hope that my post comes across as genuine.

Seriously, how do you do it? I've always been a big fan of delirium farming, and scarabs are money. I can get about 70 divines of scarabs from 38 divines worth of maps, but selling on TFT @ 85% ninja price, I'm getting just 60 divines. I understand that time is money and that I'm paying for convenience, but I'm leaving quite a bit of money on the table, especially since the ninja price doesn't take into account bulk pricing.

This isn't just about scarabs though - In general, how do you efficiently bulk sell straight to the trade website?

This may be old news for you guys, but I just noticed this now while rewatching the old PoE2 trailers. Really weird looking thing, seriously what am I looking at here

Not sure if lemmy allows uploading multiple pictures as a post. here's the new logo

How is the PoE experience on Xbox? Thinking about getting an Series S sometime in the future, would be great to play PoE on it as well

14

This honestly sucks. Other subs reached out to their members to get feedback. Why is it that the mods simply decide what to do and make the rest of us no longer have a permanent place for discussions, memes, and everything PoE? This site is hardly a replacement, as not only does the UI suck but the number of participants is almost non-existent.

I tried doing https://kbin.social/m/pathofexile@pathofexile-discuss.com but I get "The magazine from the federated server may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance."

Follow by it saying "empty" with no post.

This is a pretty huge one for me folks, after a few months of work I finally managed to get PoeFilterX to the point of where I wanted it, enabling the absolute most critical of features I have been hoping to get working since I first started this project.

I am pleased to announce the release of V3.19 of PoeFilterX!

(Technically its 3.19.3, because hey a couple minor bugfixes were part of the release cycle, sue me!)

You can check the whole project out here, to start: https://github.com/SteffenBlake/PoeFilterX

But what I would like to start with is answering a couple basic questions folks often ask when I put out a release

Whats this?

PoeFilterX is a command line tool you use to compile a "FilterX" project (consisting of many files) into a Path of Exile .filter file.

You can check out the github link above for all the details on how to do that, and all the wild features poefilterx supports!

Is this meant to replace FilterBlade?

God no, it's an entirely different sort of target demographic and FilterBlade's work is amazing!

At it's core, PoeFilterX is a tool meant for folks who want really granular and fine control of their filters, and who much prefer working with the command line and coding their stuff rather than fiddling with a web UI. So, primarily Programmers are the types of folk who are gonna be excited about this tool.

Don't get me wrong, FilterBlade as a website is extremely slick, its gorgeous, and it's powerful. But there's just inherent limitations to a web ui. Browsers are slow, and clunky, and UIs simply just can't handle every possible combination of peoples wants and needs.

So for the types of crazy people (like me) who want something way faster, slicker, and granular that lets them dig super deep into custom functionality, this is where PoeFilterX really shines.

Is this a Filter? I dont get it

This is common, this is a tool for making filters, not a filter itself, HOWEVER, I also have put up my own personal loot filter made with PoeFilterX here! It's fairly unrefined and still needs polishing but it serves as a really good demo / template for showing off the capability of PoeFilterX.

https://github.com/SteffenBlake/pixxel-filter

New Features

So lets dig into the big new features I am extremely excited to share with everyone!

Easier installation via NPM

No more need for awkward installer programs and whatnot, PoeFilterX now has an NPM wrapper bootstrapped up that is super easy to use!

If you have NPM installed right now, installing poefilterx is now as easy as:

npm install -g git+https://github.com/SteffenBlake/PoeFilterX-NPM

.json variable injection

So PoeFilterX already supported from v1 onwards variable injection, however you could only inject via Environment Variables and Command Line arguments. I thought this was good enough but, turns out, there's actually some serious issues you run into if you have really big environment variables set in windows.

I won't go into details but... lets just say really big enviro variables are not a great option for our use case here.

Enter, json variable injection!

You can now add and reference .json files in your projects via the using statement, the same way you can using .filterx files and .fss files

The .json files do have to follow the very specific template of strictly being a dictionary of arrays.

For more info on Json Variable Injection, check out the wiki section here: https://github.com/SteffenBlake/PoeFilterX/wiki/Code-Guide#usings-1

Package Management via NPM!

This is the next big one, you can now reference poefilterx files (.fss, .filterx, and .json) from an NPM package installed to your project!

Doing so is super easy, you just use the @ symbol which effectively is a shortcut to <project-root>/node_modules/

This is without a doubt my feature I am most excited about, as it has huge implications for the community. Individuals can now create modular poefilterx tools that folks can install into their projects and consume from.

Here's some great examples!

  • A creator's pack of style sheets, allowing you to install their pre-fab style sheets to use in your project

  • "Packs" of shorthand/shortcut variables in .json files that are handy for referencing. Tired of having to manually type out the same base types for items in multiple filter blocks? This can fix that!

  • And of course, any other handy NPM middleware tooling you could want to use. Gulp, API parsing, data loading to generate json files, etc

And on that note I created this super handy NPM package you can install and use, right now, for loading data from poe.ninja and parsing it out into a poefilterx compatible .json file!

https://github.com/SteffenBlake/pixxel-ninja-parser

Easy project bootstrapping!

Setting up your project is pretty easy now with the new init command, simply just open up the terminal to where you wanna make a new project and just execute poefilterx init and the wizard will ask for your project name and will initialize a basic template project for you lickity split!

Thanks for reading!

If you wanna try all this out, the wiki has a tonne of useful info right here!

We have a Discord!

You can also join the PoeFilterX discord here, if you wanna hit me up with any specific questions or wanna talk about development

Unironically, I feel like this is the way to go with the fediverse. It takes the best parts of the old internet's forums and the best part of the new internet. I hope more communities go this way instead of just being created on lemmy.ml or lemmy.world.

The new PoE2 logo removed the faces of the 3 primary attribute classes that were used in the old PoE and PoE2 logos, any theories on what these new symbols are?

21

I loved the PoE subreddit and r/pathofexilebuilds, but I didn't manage to check r/pathofexilebuilds before it went private. Anyone know if there's a Lemmy community specifically dedicated to PoE builds?

Questions Thread

This is a general question thread

Remember to check the community wiki first.

You can also ask questions in any of the questions channels under the "help" category in our official Discord.

The idea is for anyone to be able to ask anything related to PoE:

  • New player questions
  • Mechanics
  • Build Advice
  • League related questions
  • Trading
  • Endgame
  • Price checks
  • Etc.

No question is too big or too small!

We encourage experienced players to sort this thread by new.

To people who answer questions: You guys are the best! Keep making the community great!

Hi Ya'll,

MultiplicityPOE here, I help run the POE Discord and POE subreddit

With reddit.com/r/pathofexile and other subreddits going dark due to Reddit's API Changes, it made sense to me to have an alternative platform to post on, possibly just during this window, but maybe beyond, who knows

As for rules, just be kind and generally talk about PoE. There's a separate board here for discussing reddit stuff

Hope ya'll enjoy it!

-- Multiplicity

PS: If the site is broken in any way, feel free to contact me on the PoE Discord server, by opening a modmail or DMing me directly from the server
