I allways get a little bit envyous of people, that do highly complicated gadget caches. But I do my own, less complicated stuff, and it works. :) So making nice caches and not just putting out a box does not need a lot of money or skills - belive me, I am not a handyman. :D

Here I bought a piece of wood, som spray paint and a little bit of bee-related stuff at a known chinese online shop. :D - around 10 USD/10 Euro

The test tubes I used (about 40) I had from another project. Works great and did not cost a lot. People seem to like it. I could have just put out a Bison, but I am happy to have used 90 minutes on this one

Very easy to make

The story around that was an idea I posted in ChatGPT and got a nice draft that was changed to fit my purpose.

The secret is in the top... after you hopefully tried all other tubes^^

So it was 5:30 in the morning and my very first notification of a newly published cache popped up. I got so excited because I want to get a ftf. Its my new goal. I grabbed the baby and went out the door before even looking at where it was because this person placed 5 new caches and I felt like my chances of being first to one was higher. Well it was 40 mins away once I put it in the GPS and I sat there a minute wondering if I should bother but I said F it and we went. It was a nice drive and we reached the head of the class 6 road, got out of our lil prius, I strapped the baby on and we started walking down the road. About halfway through this 1 mile walk a jeep passed me and I narrowed my eyes....and yep, once we got within 150 ft of the GZ I see it parked on the road. We watched them get back in the jeep and drive away. I cant believe how crushed I was by this moment. It was actually surprising 😂😂 I kind of wanted to cry. I felt so good about my chances and we missed it by seconds. If I hadn't hesitated, or if I had brought our larger vehicle so I could have driven down the class 6 road instead of walking, we would have gotten it. I came so far 😩. Not sure Ill ever get over it. Im still bothered days later and I feel pretty stupid for it haha! I didnt even bother trying to get to any of the other 5 caches. They were all in this forest and we were not going to beat that jeep to any of them.

I have around 50 placed caches. A mix of caches I've place and caches I've adopted. Some are very urban, some are up in the mountains, several are river paddles and even one in the salty sea water. One of my urban caches was recently found after having 3 or 4 DNF logs, two by the same cacher. Turns out it was 13 months lonely when they found it a couple days ago. Just out of curiosity I looked up my other hides to see which of them was lonely. Only 1 qualifies as not having been found in the last 365 days.. in fact it hasn't been logged since 2022.

As cache owners, How often do your caches get lonely by 365 days?

As cachers how often do you seek out lonely caches specifically?

Did anybody in here get into Geocaching by accident? As in you accidentally found a cache before you even knew what Geocaching was, and took it from there?

So we've been bannerless for a little bit on this sub. I started designing a new one tonight, and thought it looked okay, but I thought it would be an even better idea to set it out to our members, and after some time on r/vexillology, I knew we had to make it a contest.

The banner is the image at the top of the subreddit feed. Very good examples of banners can be seen at r/movies, r/australia, r/bordgames or r/futurology. The banners should be exactly 1920x384 (WxH) and obviously related to geocaching. If you want to take part, anonymously submit your completed banner to this google form (or upload somewhere and send a link through modmail if you're antigoogle). You can submit up to 10 images per user. These images can be totally different, or variations on a theme. Do not put your username in the image. Considering the r/geocaching style colors may help.

After 2 weeks, I will compile the submissions, pick my favourite 6 (max 1 per user) and then make an anonymized public voting post for those 6. The other banners may be used at later dates. Thanks for your participation!

BTW, here's my terrible banner that was up from 2016-2019:

(you can do better)

Hello all,

After a period of some bad weather me and my partner went out to inspect two of our caches in a park. We noticed that there have been over 13 finds of our cache with only 4 signatures.

My question is what do I do with this? Do I delete the logs claiming to have found it? It's a small cache which clearly states to bring a pen or pencil.

Thank you

I find it very helpful for cache listings to have marked parking suggestions. Especially if the seeker is not familiar with the ground around the cache.

If the cache is away from the road, it is helpful to know where to park and start a search. If the cache is along a road, it is helpful to the driver to know where the best place to park is so that they can drive there with purpose and not impede traffic.

Plus, it helps avoid unintended traffic problems and minimizes property conflicts and damage from a bad parking choices.
