I quite regularly find myself revisiting past logs on the app or website to see how the cachers that came after me did with it. I like how it makes me try to remember which cache it was exactly and how it was hidden and kind of relive the find again. And at the same time it lets me know if I have been stealthy enough and the people after me had no trouble finding it again.

Does anyone else do this? Or are you more of a "log and move on" kind of geocacher? 😄

I have to tell you about my amazing geocaching buddy—he’s 89 and still going strong! He’s been at this since 2016 and has found almost 2,000 caches within a 10-mile radius. Even now, he’s out there on the trails, impressing everyone with how capable he is. He’s not exactly moving boulders or scaling cliffs, but for someone his age—or any age, really—he’s remarkable.

These days, when we head out, I’m usually the one making most of the finds, and he’s happy to “help” me look. Since he’s already logged a lot of the caches nearby, he can’t count them as new finds, but he’s still in it for the thrill. And even when I spot one first, he’s got this great sense of humor, acting surprised and saying, “Well, I’ll be darned!” every time. It cracks me up.

We’ve also started doing Adventure Labs together, which is something new for him since we met. It’s added a fun twist to our geocaching, and it’s awesome to see him enjoy something different. Honestly, having him as my geocaching partner has made the whole experience way more special.

To be honest, he’s definitely saved me from always being stuck at home clicking away on my tablet. He’s always showing up at my house, saying “Is this a good day for geocaching? “ and it’s saved me even when i am in one of my depressed moods, cause it forces me to snap out of it, and focus on the here and now. It’s the best thing.

It’s a blessing and inspiration to have someone who is willing to try anything. and someone who can get this couch potato out of the house.

So here’s to you Joe. My ever optimistic geocache buddy. I hope I have half of his energy if I ever live to be 89.

I'm really new at this, but I think I'm in love.

I was at an earth cache today and started chatting with a young couple. There was no physical cache, and they seemed nice, so I explained why I was hanging around, other than petting their dog. It turned out that

  1. She had done geocaching as a teenager
  2. He had found and signed a mountaintop cache without knowing anything about geocaching. I gave them my handle. Let's see if they take it up again.

  1. If see a light post skirt, lift it up.
  2. 90% of the time it is a magnetic nano.
  3. People will think you are looking for drugs.

4.Almost every trackable you post will go missing.

  1. Look in guard rails

Anything I should add?

Hello! I live in a big city, and the entire city centre is completely full, to the point where it is very difficult to make new caches and place them in spots that are readily available to tourists and travelers.

Now if you ask me, when it comes to geocaches - the more the merrier! I'm glad to see the city filled with caches all the spots that are available.

However, I really enjoy making creative and more "advanced" puzzles. I'm having little luck finding a good spot to hide them. The few empty spots I find are all physical stages for a multi-cache or something similar.

Now close to 90% of the caches in the centre are pre-bought magnetic micro tubes that are stuck to metal railings and the like. I still really enjoy finding these, but it gets a bit repetitive after a while.

Many of them are connected to an event game that one user organized in 2013. There are 42 caches around the city centre, and they have been there since. Others are a series of 4-10 micro caches.

What I'm really wondering, is if it would be rude or not in the spirit of the game for me to ask some of the long time cache-owners to "retire" their cache in favor of a new experience? Maybe to move it if possible?

Would it be looked down upon? Should I just bite the bullet and search for a place further out? Let me know your thoughts!

Please note that I'm not at all hating on those who use pre-bought caches. Keep hiding them, they're alot of fun! :))
