Turkish dissident here, was discussing politics yet again with my mom this evening and as the usual trend goes, when I mention bad things Turkey does individually she just lightly acknowledges it, regardless of how much I explain it and prove why it's not OK (like today I was interviewing people from Liwa Iskenderun, mostly Arabs and Armenians, whose ancestors were forced out in 1939 and mentioned this to her). Often she asks not to talk about politics with me, because she seemingly doesn't want to confront the crimes of Turkey in such a way, and then she sits down, turns on the news and starts hearing about how bad Israel is 24/7, how they are committing genocide, telling me they are "so bad" and repeatedly emphasizing this, and laughing about how Lebanese reporter Ali Mortada is making fun of the Zionist aggression with his now-infamous YouTube videos saying things like "Hello my enemy, I hope you have a horrible day". Also, mentioning how Netanyahu is "so bad" all the time in particular and wishing for him to be taken out. Now, whenever I question with things like "so, if it's OK to target heads of state committing crimes against humanity (IMO, it is) why isn't it justified that the Armenians tried to assassinate Abdulhamid after he murdered 200,000-400,000 of them?" as well as "if Palestinian resistance to Israel is justified (of course it is) then why isn't Armenians and Kurds resisting Turkey killing their people justified? Isn't Turkey being like Israel?" Then of course she insists that it's "more complicated" and that I have a "one sided view" on this subject and wouldn't like to talk about it. We have been going in this same loop for months, she recognizes many of Turkey's crimes and wrongdoings but never used the word "genocide" and bristles at comparisons to Israel. Seeing the willfull cognitive dissonance is the worst for me, I understand it's hard to recognize your own country's crimes but the recent events in Palestine have especially laid the paradigm out for the world to see (as in, the amount of attention on it means everyone knows the situation) and not being willing to critique your own country for the exact same stuff is really too bad. The brainwashing runs deep!

He is behind the bars since 2016 for insulting president! Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and few bogus charges. Nobody knows when he will be ever released from prison.

He’s the first politician accepted Armenian Genocide publicly and apologized from Armenians

I’m ashamed for being Turkish and makes me sick to my stomach thinking what we did to Armenian brothers and sisters in the past. Same racist Turkish mentality still active today under dictator Erdoğa government. No tolerance for minorities and respect anyone who thinks differently

I was just wondering since these French and Ukrainian sayings were popularised from times of patriotism to keep the spirit alive during the invasions of these countries. With the ongoing ethnic cleansing/genocide that Azerbaijan is perpetrating, the loss of Armenian lands and lives in Anatolia from the Armenian genocide and onwards, the tragic loss of Artsakh, and ongoing Azeri aggression etc, I think it would be pretty appropriate for Armenia to have one of these patriotic sayings as well, right?
