Hi Everyone,

I had the pleasure of visiting Armenia with my wife, parents and in-laws and spent the whole of last week there. We are Indian citizens living in the UAE. We are also Muslim.

During our trip, we stayed 5 nights in Yerevan and 2 nights in Dilijan. We have traveled to Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia earlier this year and by all accounts, we had the best time in Armenia. Your country is absolutely beautiful and the Armenians, even more. Seriously, of all the places we visited, the people of Armenia were the nicest to us. Usually people are racist to us, but everyone seemed to be happy to learn that we are Indians and wanted to strike up conversations with us.

Dilijan is the most beautiful place I’ve ever traveled to and I’m already missing it so much. I noticed that a lot of the population are elder folks and I think they are absolutely adorable and such sweethearts. Even the street animals are so friendly, my phone has more photos of them than my wife (yeah, she resents me for that).

The only negative experiences we’ve had are with a couple of Yandex Drivers that were rude to us, but it’s fine.

We also got to learn a lot about the genocide it really breaks my heart that it happened. One day I hope that the Armenian genocide gets recognized the same way people recognize the holocaust. I pray for peace between the nations and ultimately the people.

There’s a lot that I could say about Armenia, but I’ll stop with this. Thank you, for welcoming us into your country and for treating us so well. We love your country and your people.

Never change.

Professor Dr. Ibrahim Kaboglu is elected for new head of The Istanbul Bar Association. He is known for signing "I Apologize campaign". The campaign is conducted by Turkish academicians, politicians and journalists. What are your thoughts on this?

The Istanbul Bar Association: A voluntary bar association at 60,000 members, Turkey's most crowded and one of the most crowded bar associations in the world.

I recently learned about my Hamshen Armenian origins through a DNA test, see my profile for my Arevakhach tattoo :)

So I have a very Turkic first name which is difficult to pronounce for many non-Turks. Growing up and living in Germany, most people in school, at the university or at work had difficulties pronouncing and thus even remembering my name.

Having learned about my Armenian roots, I no longer can identify with my firstname. As it is also difficult for many to pronounce and spell, I am thinking about changing my name.

Germany has laws which make it easier for people who have difficult to pronounce names to change their names. Also people can change their surnames if there was a history of religious, ethnic or political oppression which led to the adopting of a new name. This is definitely the case for Hamshen Armenians.

So according to ChatGPT „Aras“ is an Armenian (and also Turkish) name. I really like it. It is simple to spell and pronounce. Unfortunetaly I could not find any Armenian besides „Aras Özbiliz“ a Turkish-Armenian footbal player who has this name.

So I want to ask you: Is Aras really a common name among Armenians?

I could not find many sources which confirm this information of ChatGPT.

Thank you!

I am an Armenian who currently studies at a selective university abroad as an international student, my major is Electrical Engineering. The issue is that a lot of the time when I am back home and I tell people what I study they try convincing me that it isn’t a career worth pursuing. I swear, half of people think I am some low level electrician. It is so frustrating to put all this effort to study one of the most impactful and difficult majors, with intentions of bettering my country, just to later be so blatantly disrespected by some ignorant people who never in their life met a proper engineer.

I understand that the reason of this is the lack of development in a respective field, but I don’t think it explains my dad literally lying to his friends and telling them that I am a programmer just so they don’t “laugh at my major”.

I actually think this ignorance is a serious issue which prevents our country from becoming as powerful and prosperous as it could otherwise be.

Original Title: Turkish Airlines featured a ruined Armenian church in Kharpert (Harput), which was desecrated during the Armenian Genocide, in one of its advertisements. This highlights how the tragic remnants of Armenian heritage are being commodified as tourist attractions in Turkey today.
