I am Turkish and I used to love Turkey. Well, I still do, but I am starting to feel more alienated. Looking at our history, especially 1915 onwards, made my question..

I am not, Muslim, I accept Christ, and I know that I will never be accepted in my country.

Anatolia used to be Christian, with the 7 churches of Asia, numerous ecumenical councils, birthplace of numerous saints, but all went to dust after 1915.

I am from a town where it was 50/50 Turkish and Armenian population before 1915 (Agn). I know from my grandpa that Armenians in Agn never revolted, but they were taken out of their homes, shot and then throwed into the Euphrates.

The straw that broke the camel's back for me was the 6-7 September pogroms, where 73 churches were burnt down. 400 Greek and Armenian women were r*ped according to this Turkish source:

I know that you may never forgive us. I doubt that even I would.

To Turkish Authorities: This post does not contain any material that is prohibited under TCK 301. I respect all the establishments that are mentioned under TCK 301.

10 minutes of Armenia coverage in Transcaucasian Telegraph's Sep/6/2024 edition.

Azerbaijani army killed an 82-year-old ethnic Armenian teacher who was fleeing his village in Nagorno-Karabakh during the September 2023 invasion

Artyusha Mikayelyan spent 42 years teaching Russian in his village of Nerkin Sznek. He was murdered by the Azerbaijani army with the silent permission of the Russian peacekeeping force.

Azerbaijan attacked Nerkin Sznek on September 19. The residents began to evacuate. Since the main road was blocked by the Azerbaijani army, they had to trek several kilometers through the woods to reach the nearby village.

Artyusha's family reached the destination but he fell behind to help his 92-year-old sister. Eventually they all reached the nearby village safely. However, there was not enough room in the car caravan headed to the capital Stepanakert, so Artyusha and several others stayed behind and spent the night there, waiting for the next opportunity.

The following day the Azerbaijani army reached the village where the 6 remaining evacuees spent the night. They were forced to flee on foot. The 6 split into two groups: Artyusha went with his friend, while 4 others went on a different path.

From that 4-member group, 2 are still missing, 2 were captured and tortured by Azerbaijan before being released with the help of the Red Cross. One person is still imprisoned in Azerbaijan.

Artyusha's body was found in the woods on September 27. There was a cut on the back of his head.

Iran takes a direct shot at Russia and Azerbaijan despite Kremlin's efforts to foment discord between Armenia and Iran

As a regular reader of Transcaucasian Telegraph, you recall from September 3 report that Iran invited the Russian ambassador to warn against the creation of an extraterritorial corridor through Armenia. Context: Russia and Azerbaijan want a corridor through Armenia without the presence of Armenian customs and security agents, while Armenia agrees to provide a route co-managed by an international company as long as Armenian customs and security agents are also present.

Iran's Ambassador to Armenia again reiterated Iran's stance against a "corridor" on Friday:

AMB. SOBHANI: The road connecting Azerbaijan to Nakhijevan cannot be controlled by other countries. Any control should be carried out within the framework of Armenia’s sovereignty. We are not in favor of other countries coming here and trying to establish any kind of security and control. All dreams and illusions regarding the Zangezur corridor will never become reality. This is not the 19th century, this is the 21st century, and countries have independence and exercise their independence. // [Ooo00of what was that last part about? That "19th century" was oddly specific. Was he referring to Russian colonialism?]*

FOREIGN MINISTER of IRAN, ARAGHCHI: Any threat from North, South, East, or West to the territorial integrity of our neighbors or redrawing of boundaries is totally unacceptable and a red line for Iran. //

Meanwhile, Russian Ambassador Kopyrkin recently attempted to stoke divisions between Armenia, West, and Iran again, by repeating the unsubstantiated claim that EU's border monitoring mission on the AM-AZ border is "spying on Iran", a claim denied by Armenia and EU. Nevertheless, Iran has not openly spoken against the presence of EU observers in Armenia. A ranking member of Armenia's ruling party criticized the Russian ambassador's statement earlier this week.

Something I've been noticing lately is that Armenians don't really push back against Armenian Genocide denial and when they do they do a pretty poor job at it. For instance, when Turks say something along the lines of "it was a justified reaction to an Armenian rebellion and they sided with the Russians" most people respond with "So what? That doesn't make it justified" or something along those lines. Basically accepting the denialist narrative that there was an Armenian rebellion in the first place when Armenian citizens of the Ottoman Empire remained loyal and that most of the fighting the Turks had with Armenians were with the Armenian citizens of the Russian Empire that were at war with the Ottomans at the time.

In June, TRT published a comprehensive denialist documentary filled with so much blatant disinformation and half truths that received virtually no pushback and no fact checking whatsoever.

Most Armenians are baffled that anyone would deny something so obvious and don't really see this worth debating, but like we've seen with the Holocaust, treating it as something that can't be debated and not fact checking allows for denialist disinformation to go unchecked and eventually seep into the mainstream (like we have recently seen with Kanye West, Candace Owens, the latest Tucker Carlson interview). Now I'm not saying that Armenian Genocide denial will go mainstream worldwide because we don't have the same amount of recognition, but in Turkish society and in the Muslim world it pretty much has already gone mainstream with no pushback whatsoever.

Don't really have a solution to this, I'm going to start a twitter account dedicated to responding to disinformation and fact checking but there also needs to be an effort from scholars and even the ANCA (something they can be really useful at for once) to help push back on this.

Pashinyan urges Armenians to be less wasteful and flashy (riots expected in Los Angeles)

PASHINYAN: I know it's not appropriate to be nosy but when you look at our citizens in restaurants, 90% of them order 30% more food than they need. You occasionally glance and notice how packed the table is, so packed that it could feed another group of people. This is a socio-psychological problem. Why do we have more food on our tables than we actually need? We do this so the guests won't think we are cheaping out, so they won't think they are unwelcome. The person receives a guest in the evening and wastes the resources, then goes to his workplace in a state office and begins to spend taxpayer money with the same logic. The person's behavior cannot change between the evening and morning, you can't be wasteful in the evening and efficient in the morning. //

Georgia illegally handed over an Azerbaijani journalist to Aliyev regime: European court ruling

Afghan Mukhtarli was kidnapped in Georgia and deported to Azerbaijan in violation of European conventions on human rights. Now the two states owe him €21,000, says the European Court of Human Rights.

Mukhtarli left Azerbaijan in 2015 after investigating corruption by the Aliyev regime. Two years later he was attacked, blindfolded, and kidnapped in Tbilisi and taken straight to the border and handed over to Azerbaijan. Mukhtarli was freed in 2020 under Western pressure.

Armenia's non-parliamentary pro-EU parties initiate a process to organize a non-binding referendum to reaffirm Armenia's path to the EU

The group submitted a registration application to the electoral commission. If/when the commission registers the group, it will have 60 days to collect 50,000 signatures to submit the referendum resolution to Parliament.

The ruling party says this non-binding referendum would be premature, wouldn't accomplish anything now, would cause unnecessary fatigue in the electorate (there will be general elections in 2026 and another referendum on Constitution in 2027), and that it's way too early to talk about Armenia's accession to the EU at a time when Armenia hasn't even completed the implementation of CEPA, after which it would need to complete CEPA+, then Visa Liberalization, then CEPA+Economic, and only then they can have a realistic path to join the EU.

On Thursday the ruling party approved the Government's decision to join EuroJust. It's a European initiative under which countries share justice-related information and combat crime jointly. The EU welcomed Armenia's decision to join it.

RULING MP TOROSYAN: This is what Euro-integration looks like in real life. People often ask what it means and what we are doing. This is an example. //
