I paid a one-time fee years ago for Adobe Premiere Pro, but when they moved to subscription-based service I lost access to my old edition of Premiere. It's like pulling teeth, I get so close but I'm so far.

Howdy maties, what seedbox providers do you use and what should be avoided when looking for one?

I want to get rid of my vps and get a dedicated seedbox, they seem to come nowadays with one click installs and the sorts, a vpn would be nice to have if needed, what do you look for when choosing a provider?

Hi, I recently discovered a post that finally allowed me to run the known repacks on Linux, so I decided to summarize everything and share it with you here on Lemmy; let me know if you would improve some steps to make the procedure even easier to follow.

Requirements

lutris, protonup-qt, wine-staging

Set Up Lutris

1. Open Lutris > Preferences > Global Options
2. Enable "Show advanced options"
3. "Disable Lutris Runtime" (off)
4. "Disable Desktop effects" (on)
5. "Disable Screen Saver" (on)
6. "Enable Feral GameMode" (on)
7. Save

Wine Versions Management

1. Open ProtonUp-Qt > choose Lutris > Add version
2. Choose and Install (ignore -LoL versions; Wine-GE suggested)
3. Restart Lutris

Install Windows Repacks

1. Open Lutris > + > Add locally installed game
2. Type the name of your game
3. Select Wine as Runner
4. Go to "Game options" tab
5. In "Wine prefix" create "/home/user/Games/your-game"
6. Go to "Runner options" tab
7. On "Wine version" select the version you prefer
8. Save
    8-1. (If FitGirl Repack)
8-2. Click on the game your just added
8-3. On the botton panel click the "Up" icon near the "Platform: Windows" text
8-4. Run EXE inside Wine prefix
8-5. Open the .bat file inside the FitGirl repack
    8-6. Wait then "Install"
8-7. Wait the "Checking fg-01.bin" window and "All files OK"
    8-8. Close the window
9. Click on the game your just added
10. On the botton panel click the "Up" icon near the "Platform: Windows" text
11. Run EXE inside Wine prefix
12. Open the "setup.exe" file inside your repack
13. Wait; click "Install" if any installation prompt appears
14. Follow the DODI/FitGirl installer
    14-1. Use "C:\" as destination
14-2. Don't create a desktop icon or a start menu entry
14-3. Deselect every option that starts with "Update" for eg: "Update DirectX"
15. After the installation > right click on the game > Configure
16. Go to "Game Options" tab
17. In "Executable" put "/home/user/Games/your-game/drive_c/Your Game/your_game.exe"
18. Save
19. (optional) Right click on your game > Create desktop shortcut

So...yeah. Looking at file size, it clearly beats older 264 or even 265. I don't mind if my server is going to have to transcode for most clients, I think the size difference in size might be worth it. But not sure which groups I could focus to look for these AV1 releases, seem they're quite scarce still?

I'm new to Soulseek, just downloaded a bunch of music I like. I want to not be a leach and give back to the community by sharing the things I downloaded, however Mullvad doesn't allow port forwarding. Is it possible to share files on Soulseek without having open ports? Does everyone who shares stuff on Soulseek use no VPN/a VPN with port forwarding?

Since the Plex announcement that their integration with tidal is ending, I'm considering what my options are. I'm aware the the *arrs but is there anything that will recommend music?

What do all you die hard pirates do to discover new bands?

It seems animesuge.to, anix.to and aniwave.to closed down with the exact same message, though there may be a few other sites that closed down in a similar way.

I've never known so many shutdowns inside 2 weeks as the last two have been. Even websites pirating manga were shut down. What happened? What's with this massive legal wave of shutdowns, and why now?

Not sure if I used the correct terms but what is the difference in security and privacy between downloading from a public wifi (or a closed wifi; with password) and mobile hotspot (sharing 4G/5G data from your phone to your computer)? Which one is recommended or does it not matter?

Is this as much of a pain in the ass as I remember? Do I still need to patch the download and then block Adobe in my hosts file, or has the process changed?

The last time I tried to do this, I actually found zero torrents that worked. All of them gave you keys that had long since been banned by Adobe. I'm on Mac if it matters.

Anyone in here know anything about this? I posted this morning, but that vanished. Odd.

I think a common factor on why torrents are having a resurgence and illegal streaming services are getting more traction, is subscription fatigue. Subscription fatigue doesn't only contain itself to streaming services, movies or music, nowadays you're also expected to subscribe to every app you download. Whether it's a meditation app, a budgeting app (looking at YNAB that went from a one-time purchase to a really expensive subscription model), the Adobe suite, the MS Office suite, your Peloton bike that you've already paid hundreds of dollars for (referencing the earlier article on them establishing a startup fee for buying used bikes), or a podcast app where the money doesn't even go to the podcasters themselves.

Is there a peak for this? I feel like subscriptions are becoming more of a rule than an exception. Having the ability to directly purchase digital goods seems more like a thing of the past. It's just so stupid. But apparently people don't care? They just keep paying for this? Apparently it's still worth it for companies to establish a subscription model, even if there are no benefits for the customer, just the company. What are your thoughts? What can we do to stop it?
